What should teachers do to make courses more interesting and valuable to students? Teachers are in a favorable position to make courses interesting and valuable to students. They could make any course or subject interesting by using creativity and catching the imagination of students so that the students will be engaged with the subjects and overcome not only the perceived difficulty of a subject but also boredom which make students disinterested with studying. Take for example the subject of Physics.

Physics sounds intimidating to most students because it seems so hard. The teacher can either dispel or reinforce this perspective with how he or she presents the subject. Instead of immediately going to computations in teaching the subject, the teacher can instead cite a movie about time travel such as Project Almanac, Back to the future or even Terminator to make the idea about quantum physics (or other concepts about physics) interesting instead of making it intimidating or beyond the understanding the of common students.

From there, the teacher can proceed in teaching the theories and eventually the computations without the students realizing that they are already studying the subject. This is effective because the teacher has captured the imagination of the students where the seemingly difficult subject becomes an engaging subject that can be used for adventure, fun or understanding our world. Another example is the subject of Literature. Literature can be a bore when a teacher is bookish or merely reading passages from the book.

Instead, the teacher can act out the dramas in literature to put life into them. They could mimic the approach of John Keating in the movie Dead Poet Society to make the students engaged with the subject.
