Accommodations and Modifications A with special needs is the one having either physical or mental impairments thatprevent him or her from performing the daily activities. Alternatively, an individual with special needs is the one that has been proved to be in need of the special education and its related services. Such students are supposed to be integrated into the society and treated with respect. Notably, the word handicapped should not be used to refer to them; instead, they should be addressed similarly to the ordinary ones such as son or daughter.

Furthermore, the federal and state requires that special students must be accorded primary and tertiary education that suits their conditions (Beech 4). Accommodations and modification have been helpful when administering instructions and assessment for students with special needs. This is because accommodations strategies are designed to meet the needs of every individual that ensures equal delivery, as well as standard academic contents.In this research work, the student with specific learning disability (SLD) will be considered.

This disability makes the victim to have difficulty in understanding and acquiring language both written and spoken. In addition, being a student learning English as a second language, the student also has a disability of English learning. In specific, the student suffering from this disorder has problems of listening, spelling, writing, speaking and performing complicated puzzles together with doing mathematics (Beech 23).Such student can be supported by the use of the accommodation and modification.

This strategy is organized into four categories namely presentation, response, scheduling, and setting. Presentation involves setting the student to access the relevant information. Since this student has difficulty in reading, instructions and assessment can be administered in form of illustrations and graphics such as audio, visual, or tactile. However, this approach cannot be effective in some cases where the information to be relayed cannot be either graphed or illustrated. Additionally, preparing theses illustrations and graphics is difficult and time consuming.

For response, the student can be introduced to alternative ways of responses as opposed to the conventional ways such as writing, speaking, and drawing. The alternative methods of response, that student should be introduced to include scribes, computers, or word processors, braille, and word prediction software. Other alternative methods of response are voice recorders, portable sound recording devices, speech recognition software, and incorporating sign language. The primary concern is the expensive nature of these gadgets (Beech 32).

For setting accommodation, the student can be introduced to new learning environment. This move is important since it helps the student to access the study area with ease and managing of the behavior. Moreover, setting accommodation can assist the institution in reorganization of the learning materials and space. In regards to scheduling accommodation, the student with this kind of learning disability requires alterations in time management, time allocation, and rescheduling of the daily learning programs.

It will ensure the improvement of different aspects of the student such as attention, performance rate, time management, and monitoring ability. The main draw back that can limit implementation of this accommodation is the potential lack of space and expertise to oversee the scheduling (Beech 44).Assistive technology has been helpful in supporting and teaching classroom with students with special needs. The first step in using technology in the classroom is to identify the technology that is relevant and reliable to the needs of every student.

After which, students are made to be comfortable with the technology by encouraging manipulations and ensuring that they have known how to operate them.
