Personal Statement Development is a lifelong improving, shaping, and nurturing of an individual’s skills. The interests and knowledge to ensure maximum adaptability and effectiveness, in order to minimize the obsolescence of my skills and chances of redundancy. Necessarily it does not imply the upward movement, rather, its enables individuals to improve and make use of their full potential at each career stage. My parents are all employed, but that is still not enough my family struggles to maintain the life we have. Being the oldest of four siblings, and due to our family income being insufficient, I have to work part time to provide for the little luxuries I want in my life like a new phone, a laptop and many more. Having a job, unlike my peers has taught me how to stay disciplined and schedule my time properly. Thereby enabling me to maintain high grades at school. Issues of time management are very costly, as it is said to fail to plan planning to fail. I plan my weekly schedule to avoid falling behind my schedule, this has been quite effective as I have never had problem in achieving my goals that I had set for the semester. Even though there has been some setback due to poor execution or overcrowding for example, I have been planning to read an inspirational literature which has been stagnating on my schedule. Personal development My plans will integrate academic development with personal development. Personal activity such as spending more time in the school library conducting research on important aspects of my professional field is highly considered. This means I have to dedicate more time in finding work that is suitable for my field of study. This learning experience is aimed at learning from other people and encompassing the learned methods and ideas into my skills. Developmental changes are essential to ensure improvement in overall well-being of my career prospects. To develop confidence I plan to undertake more involvement in social activities and situations. My main goal is to be able to attend at least one or more social events in a week. In addition to acquisition of interpersonal and leadership skills will be given priority as these skills enable me to prepare for what the professional world requires. My general performance of my degree course has been fairly ok. This is because most of my time I obtain a second lower or second upper grades. This had been influenced by the fact that the course structure allowed me more time to prepare and study on my courses. Objective setting In order to improve my managerial skills that I lacked, I enrolled myself in this course. This is so as to improve on my technical skills and managerial skills to be capable of competing in the business world. The main goal setting skills that I could learn is by brainstorming and discussing my sessions with the counselor, family, friends and teachers. I find problem in prioritizing my tasks so at work the other day we got assignments as Christmas Temps. It was difficult to prioritize and manage as they were both important. Thereby I preplanned and brainstormed the prioritized work. Maintaining a diary to help me schedule also heavily improved my skills. Transferable Skills Although I do not plan to become a veterinary, my experience at the pet shop has assisted me in experience in caring for animals and human beings as I babysit my siblings most of the time. I am able to appreciate the importance of ethical treatment for all things. Which I have noticed some people disregard other forms of life. On the other hand, I have been developing a several transferable skills both at work and at school. In the course of my studies I have developed research skills, analytical abilities and presentation skills when I write essays and dissertations as a student. I am an adamant soccer player and playing in a team has assisted me in developing team player skills. I am able to work with people in a team. During the summer holidays I worked part time at the mall, this greatly influenced the development of my customer care services, communication and listening skills. This valuable experience will help me throughout my career as I will apply them often. I believe when I emerge from the University I will be fully equipped to take on the world. Extracurricular activities I intend to improve my social interactions outside and inside the campus. The most effective way I can be able to achieve this is by getting involved in extra-curricular activities. I am not an athlete, thus it has been difficult choosing a club or sport. Since it is an important to me, I decide to choose a badminton team and over time I have become an active and competent player. This has proven to be quite beneficial and helpful in several ways. Playing in a team of two has assisted me in developing team player skills. I am able to work with people in a team. Becoming part of a team improved my skills, also understanding my roles and responsibilities in the team made me an efficient team player. Conclusion Apparently there are several things that I can develop by myself; however these are only possible after my graduation, which is a big turn in my life. Writing this personal development portfolio has enabled me to keep track of the development changes that are essential to the achievement of my goals. I would love to improve on my weaknesses as I have realized my weaknesses are the sort of thing that I do not pay great attention of. You get to know what you want in this life when your inner convictions and true sense of purpose sets a purpose. My strengths are anchored in the knowledge I gained in school and my personal experience in life, and my ambitions in life. Thus remembering what I have achieved so far is only the beginning that could possibly represent only the start of a journey towards success. Thereby I came to a conclusion, frequent self-assessments and conference reviews in the future will be helpful to assist me further in maintain and achieving a personal career progress and effectiveness to my desire.
