No Lecture: Summary parent relationship has a well-grounded research foundation considering the numerous possible gains it can provide in the student’s education. Parental involvement in student’s education motivates the student. The general aim of writing this article is to bring out the relationship between student’s motivation and parental engagement and its importance. From the synthetic thinking of parental engagement and motivation overview, more explanations of this relationship are also presented. Introduction Parental involvement means taking part in activities such as meetings, school events, governance events, workshops among others. Parents have been pointed out to be substantial advocates of their own children and more so students. In many cases, they are termed as informal consultants when their children are making career choices and academic conclusions. According to Bhakar, & Seema, (2009), children who were born after 1982 want to be close to their parents to feel protected. Diane, (2010) also pointed out that since the introduction of electric devices, 48% talk with their parents daily. Parental involvement helps a lot in supporting the academic performance of their children, as well as general well-being of students. Hypothesis The greater frequency of communication between students and their parents, the greater the immediacy Frequent communication between parents and students contributes largely in maintaining a good relationship between the two. This is because the student feels free open their problems to the elders. This too helps parents in understanding their children better and know what they need from time to time. College students who communicate with their parents via phone will have more immediacy than college students who communicate with their parents via social media Not all parents have access to social network. Thus, this can be a slow or poor form of communication as compared to phone calls and text messages. Students who communicate with their parents via phone tend to get feedback faster than those using social media. The more immediacy between students and their parents, the higher the academic achievement students will get. Student’s performance is highly determined by how much the parent’s concern is. Through frequent communication, parents can learn their children’s weaknesses and rectify them immediately. In addition, parents can nurture good values of respect, honor, cooperation and responsibility, which in turn help in good academic performance. In efforts to nurture and back up student’s effective and social growth as well as academic advancement, parents have been encouraged to build a communication system with the teachers, which will in turn help them in monitoring their student’s progress. Communication with the student will also help you to know what kind of support your child needs if financial or emotional support the earlier you solve their problems the highly they will feel motivated to perform better. The problem Students love and honor their parents very much and are never ready to disappoint them. The common problem that brings difficulties in academic performance is the idea of parents forcing their children to choose a certain career path. In many cases, students are forced to change programmes or career objectives by their parents. This in turn brings problems such as lack of interest in certain subjects, misinformation, career confusion and enhanced consciousness hence poor academic performance. This brings so much stress to students as they are still faced by so much career demands and do not want to fail their parents. They however begin to lose courage on how to face their parents and communicate this to them with the fear of potentially discouraging them. This results to students hiding information from their parents like academic performance as well as a diminished student-parent relationship. Raised anxiety can result too hence becoming a bumbling bar to academic progress as well as career growth. The solution Actively communicate with parents This can be done by holding frequent meetings with parents and students separately to discuss the challenges faced by the students and informing the same to the parents. Parents are also informed how they can support and encourage their students during the academic year. They also get to learn when their students are faced by financial, emotional or even social stress. This programme can help in bringing about hints and communication tips that can help in alleviating talks between the students and their parents. This way, they can be able to come up with possible solutions. Educating the students on good communication methods Good communication can help in career growth as well as good academic performance. Therefore, helping students acquire the best tools needed for productive dialogues would be a good solution. The issue of being afraid to potentially let down their elders usually prevents them from progressing. To come up with a possible solution to this, the teachers or school heads can form committees who can educate the students on the best way to approach their parents on difficult conversations without fear of anything. This also makes the students feel supported and do away with the fear of struggling with difficult issues alone and quietly. They feel that their parents can now understand them better and can now choose the correct career path for themselves. As stone, Diane, (2010) point out, speakers who choose to be correct instead of understanding each other and letting the other speaker present their opinion make various dialogues difficult. Teaching student’s good listening acquisitions and techniques helpful for understanding and substantiating their own parents can help in solving out some of these problems. Students should also be taught how to express their feelings and avoid the defensive nature of their parents. This also helps the two parties to stop blaming and judging each other. By use of career guide and counseling as well as career appraisals, students will have enough information and courage to approach their parents for conversations. Continued programming to encourage open dialogues between students and parents can help in a successful career and academic development (see appendix fig 2). Objectives This article is purposely written to help strengthen the student-parent relationship in various ways: Identify different problems faced by students without their parents’ knowledge Several problems have been identified hence enabling parents to look for the possible solutions to go about in ensuring their children have full support and encouragement. Identify the possible reasons for students’ poor performance This article is meant to help parents understand how the poor student-parent relationship constitutes to poor academic performance and help them come up with possible solutions to the same. Helping in improve awareness of the important roles parents plays in student’s academic life This helps in identifying the strategies needed for improving the student’s academic performance as well as retention in handling both life challenges and career assessment. Role of parent’s involvement in learning Parental enjoyment Parental involvement is one the subjects of with a lot discussion and debate by researchers and policy creaters and is often employed interchangeably with parental participation and yet parental engagement (Christine, 2007. Although some authors provide a clear differentiation between participation and other forms of involvement, the definitions employed and the way these associate to positions and behavior are not consistent. This suggests that it is impossible begin an account of parental involvement that is cosmically accepted and univocal. However, it is crucial to lineation a working resolution of parental participation that matches to what the grounds suggests has a good affect on children’s discovering results. As the present proves and supports the impression that parental participation can and does have a great impact on student academic accomplishment, there is a crucial deviation between requiring to have parents in schooling and involving parents in learning. It has been proven the later that this gives impacts that are positive (Leah, 2007). Although requiring parents in school actions may have a significant social and community purpose. It is this involvement of parents in student learning at home that creates positive changes towards children’s academic accomplishment. More importantly, encouraging involvement in the home frequently calls for teacher-parent communication that may occur in the school surroundings and which then furthers good alterations at home and other places. Consequently, it is not inevitably significant to make a clear differentiation between home-and school-based involvement, especially where the two are reciprocally reinforcing. As it is generally, believed, parental involvement encourages for greater responsibility when it come to education between parents and teachers, in this case the process of learning surpasses the school surroundings and the curriculum which is formal. Schools and parents can work as a team to make an alternative learning terms for the young people as well as the children by creating high prospects, conversing with the students regarding their education as well as their aspirations concerting their future occupations (Letitia, 2014). Economic impact of parental engagement Several studies give an opening on which forms of parents can be involved and their importance in being involved in the education. This in turn makes the learning more interesting while creating more satisfaction at school (John, 2010). An argument by Christine, (2007), for instance, found that children aged 9 – 13 whose homes offered a more stimulating learning environment (measured at age 8) had a higher intrinsic motivation for academic studies. Others have found that family practices, parenting styles, and parents’ personal self-efficacy for helping a child to learn all contribute to motivation for learning (Bhakar, & Seema, 2009). Strengths and weaknesses of parent student relationship Strengths As analyzed from the data collected, it is evident from the communication student have over a period of one week is more effective since each party member is now planning to take home see fig 1. Additionally, if the parent-student communication and visiting is implemented, then you will start experiencing fun dream. Weaknesses From the analyzed data, there is redundancy in the data since the most of the responders did not give accurate data on the period and the number of days they communicate to the parents. Therefore, in this report the weakness on communication between the responders and the data collectors. As observed in the leading section, it is strength to have state funding when considering using proper talent that would be needed to provide funding same the yearly state appropriation. Nevertheless, when equated with the funding levels however, any meeting set up between the student and the parent’s shows sign of weakness. Conclusion Generally, all school staff, teachers, administrators, as well as specialist considered the student-parent relationship very vital in serving both the student and school’s needs. According to Jeynes (2005), Parental involvement has played a very vital role in student’s academic performance. Another study shows that parent’s engagement with students is advocated helping students perform better in certain tests, (Epstein 1995). Schools can encourage this relationship by engaging allowing parents participate in school events, curriculum activities like games, projects, and other events like students parties and talent shows. Teachers can as well engage parents in their students’ school life by informing them on the social and emotional growth of their children in the stage they are in and look for the possible ways and time to input guidance on the weak sides. They can also encourage students involve their parents in their decision-making. Speaking up for your child can also create a good relationship between the two of you as well as constituting to good performance. Children whose parents or guardians are always ready to advocate them are always confident wherever they are and achieve higher. They as well feel supported and encouraged to work harder. However, parents should be careful not to advocate the wrong way and encourage bad behaviors in their children.
