Assignment 9 Ohoud Alradhi Explain the nature and importance of human relations based on the organizational settings in the case studies.
Based on the case studies within our textbook, human relations is the study of how people’s attitudes, beliefs and behaviours are related to each other, particularly in a professional context. For example, in the school management scenario there was a thorough analysis done on the staff in order to monitor their behaviour regarding work related situations (Wiles & Bondi, 2004). Every organization has to learn and apply proper human relations management and also apply it in their operations. I do not think the study of human relations is responsible for highlighting anything. Therefore, human relations based on the school scenario are important, as it provides a strong foundation that enables the staff to be able to focus on their self-development thereby enhancing a better and effective working environment. It is through great relationships that most organizations are able to prosper.
2. Identify one significant development in the workplace that has given new importance to human relations
One major development is the increasing importance of the interpersonal skills in every work setting in all organizations. It is well noted that technical ability in this age of information is not enough in achieving organizational success. Interpersonal skills as well as communication skills are major rating factors when it comes to hiring employees. For example, the school board hired most of their staff based on their interpersonal skills. The board rated their staff’s interpersonal skills because they wanted to know how well the staff will relate to their co-workers and students in terms of their speaking and listening skills (Wiles & Bondi, 2004).
3. Focussing on major forces that influence human behaviour at work explain organizational culture.
Based on the organizational settings of the studies within our textbook, organizational culture simply refers to a collection of shared beliefs, rituals, values, myths and stories that tend to give a feeling of unity among the organizational members(Wiles & Bondi, 2004). It is quite clear that the culture depicted by most organizations is simply a reflection of the beliefs, behaviours and the values that are brought up by a group of individuals. Therefore, the success of any organization is also built on its abilities to portray a good image and outcome of the organization’s objectives.
4. Describe communication as a basic theme of the foundation for effective human relations
Communication is referred to as the means through which we are able to create a common understanding between others and ourselves. In order to bring out the aspect of self-development, people should be able to learn on how to communicate effectively. It is through the development of communications skills that employees are able to boost the working relationships that exist among them. For example, the school board hired staff members based on their oral communication skills (Wiles & Bondi, 2004). Therefore, this shows that communication is a significant aspect when it comes to human relations.
5 What are some of the aspects of work group influence that can be depicted from the case studies?
There are three work group influences: social needs, emotional support and support for meeting goals. For example, the staff members in the school were generally connected in their work situations thus they provided each other with the needed social support(Wiles & Bondi, 2004). The staff members’ interactive working relationship illustrates the social need aspect. Emotional support simply refers to a situation whereby co-workers provide each other with the support needed for dealing with work pressure. This aspect can be seen in the organizational setting in the studies within our textbook. Finally, the aspect of support for meeting goals focuses on a work group that offers the resources and support they need in order to achieve the schools’ organizational goals.
