Extract of sample "Special Education Teachers within and without Alabama"

The methodology encompassed the use of a sample size of 70 highly qualified teachers in southeast Alabama from the 117 teachers in the county who had agreed to participate in the study. The determination of the high qualification was based on whether one taught core subjects such as English, Mathematics, foreign languages or the sciences. It was also based on whether one held a full-stated certification, possessed a solid knowledge of a particular area and had received a bachelor’s degree from a university. The sample size was adequate and bound to deliver valid findings and inferences relative to the topic of study.

The study showed that most special teachers left the field due to occupational stress, lack of enough planning time, class size, demands of IDEA, and poor conditions of work. However, the study did little to present ways and mechanisms of dealing with or addressing these issues and concerns. The emerging questions in the entire article include, but are not limited to:

  • What are the underlying trends in attrition, migration and turnover of special education teachers within and without Alabama?
  • How did the researcher(s) come up with the results or how did they obtain a valid conclusion?
  • What are the result-based implications of the study?
