About Tuskegee Airmen: During 1940, the US government airplanes were extremely important for fighting another war that broke out in continuation to World War I. Government wanted to strengthen the air force in order to provide aerial support for a highly powerful military. According to Roscoe Brown, Africans Americans in the country were segregated racially and this “segregation was very brutal.
”1 They wanted to fight for the country and planned serve this purpose through military, but could not do so due to their race. Later the military pilot government gave permission to the African Americans to undergo training. The government selected Tuskegee in Alabama, as the place where African Americans could train to become military pilots. So this training went on during the World War II and these African Americans came to be known as Tuskegee Airmen. “During World War II, almost 1,000 African Americans turned out to be military pilots at Tuskegee.
They were called as the Tuskegee Airmen”2 They achieved good in the history of record and played a significant role in the integration of armed forces. “From 1941 through 1946, nearly 1,000 young men were trained as pilots, and, after successfully completing the training, they received their commissions and silver pilot wings. The Tuskegee Airmen formed the 332nd Fighter Group which originally consisted of four fighter squadrons: the 99th, the 100th, the 301st and the 302nd”3 “The first Tuskegee Airmen were organized into a unit called the 99th Fighter Squadron”4 The second African American Army unit formed in Tuskegee was named ‘100th.
The story of Tuskegee Airmen is a significant civil rights story of African Americans who wanted to provide service to their country, their family and to their friends. They will always be remembered and their spirits would be kept alive for generations to come. The strategies they used will be beneficial for the upcoming military officers who want to serve the country. The personality, courage and dedication of the Tuskegee Airmen created the way for their military companions of every race, creed, religion, caste and ethnicity to serve their country side by side during battles.
Their unselfish sacrifices have trained each new generation of Americans and shown them the true significance and strength of these bygone heroes. It is no doubt that through the information obtained from the museums and historical sites, people including students will be able to collect and gain more information regarding the Tuskegee Airmen on facts such as which they were and what they achieved during and after the world war.
