Share the Good News - Discussion While working in the call center industry a few years back, I found myself in a position of having to take verbal instructions from our team leader as phone call handling policies had the tendency to be adjusted on a weekly basis depending upon the caller volume expected for the week. There was a period of time when I was forced to be absent from work due to health related reasons and therefore missed the verbal update from the team leader for the week. When I reported for work, I asked him if there had been any new marching orders while I was away. He replied that there were no changes and I should use the same policy as the previous week. That is exactly what I did and then found myself being brought up on non-compliance with call handling standards at the end of the month due to a caller complaint. It was only then when my team leader “recalled” that there were indeed changes that week that I was not informed about. Due to the situation arising from command responsibility, I was not held liable for what happened and got off with a warning and a memo in my employee file.
The first thing I need to know in the case of a worker taking credit for the work of another is whether I am the supervisor in charge who can handle the issue. If I am then I can take action by investigating the validity of the complaint as filed by the aggrieved party. If enough evidence exists to prove that the complainant is the original owner of the work in question then proper credit must be given and the previous employee must be given the proper disciplinary action based upon the company blue book policy. The resulting disciplinary action could include anything from suspension to termination from duties and/or the filing of civil of criminal cases whenever applicable. Read More

... the capacity to develop reason, and so reason remains a facility that must be exercised and developed. To act conscientiously is to act on reason-based decisions. (Bonnie,1995) Aquinas discusses people who have erring consciences and make wrong decisions based on faulty reasoning. He states that this may not be the person’s fault if he has not learned enough to know what is right or wrong. Every human being on this earth has a conscience- deep down and is absolutely obligated to be and do good, and this obligation could come from God. Conscience is the voice of God in the soul. We have been stating that conscience is merely a feeling but I feel it is more of knowledge that is required to understand the difference between right and wrong...

Faith and Works - Comparison of James 2:14 and Romans 4

While the apostles James and Paul agree that Faith connotes belief in God and Works connotes good actions, James contends that faith and works are both essential for salvation, while Paul asserts that faith is the only requisite.

James is unequivocal in his declaration that “faith by itself if it has no works, is dead” (2:17). However, he does not discount the importance of faith. His contention is that both are essential and one, without the other, is futile. He is addressing Christians, who, we may assume, are already among the congregation of the faithful, by virtue of their professed belief “that God is one” (2:19). Therefore, James accepts that faith is a precondition for salvation but asser...

Gender Pay Gap: A Discussion

The Gender Pay Gap is demonstrated by the fact that it is a consistent and widely observed phenomenon that women earn less than men (Becker, 1957/1985; Bergmann, 1974). Aside from this, there has been sufficient evidence that this form of wage discrimination exists in many cases for no other objective reason other than gender. This is proven by many examples of employers giving higher wages to men with the same position or qualifications as women.

Many academic and workplace studies have attempted to explain why this gap exists because such forms of discriminatory wage practices are a form of inefficient allocation of economic resources (Wharton, 2006; Blau & Kahn, 1992).

Since wages reflect the economic...

Description of Two Established Personality Assessment Tools: Discussion of Strengths and Weaknesses

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) was developed in the 1930s by Harvard University psychiatrist Henry A. Murray and university student Christiana Morgan in the pursuit of identifying personality characteristics and unconscious human desires (Bosshardt, 2004). TAT assessments generally consist of 31 different cards in which varying ambiguous illustrations and photos are displayed, asking participants to respond to their interpretations of what is occurring within each visual image. Internal conflicts or motivational desires are generally projected by participants who are exposed to TAT assessments, allowing psychologists to determine the personality constructs of individuals.

Strategic Management of News Corporation

Organizational growth is possible through a strategic approach. Growth is to make business innovations through a combination of theory and practice of business strategy(Koller & Lecher 2007), creation of organizational capabilities (Peter quoted by Kettunen 2007), and bridge-building between what is today, what is desired tomorrow (West-Burnham, 1994 quoted by Kettunen, n.d). The principle of strategic planning is linked to short-term and long-term planning (Kettunen, n.d.). However, “strategies and business change with time and there is no need for loading ourselves with piles of speculation (Murdoch quoted by McQuade, 2006). In light of the above discussion strategic planning assumes a dynamic nature guided by suitabil...

The Importance of Good Leadership in the Implementation of a Successful Organizational Change

Since the year 2000, globalization has led many large business organizations to implement a long list of necessary changes in order to keep their business competitive within the global market. These changes may be influenced by both internal and external factors. (Burke, 2002)  Internal factors could be the introduction of a newly appointed general manager that came from a different company and cultural background or a change in organizational policy.  On the other hand, external factors may include new customers’ preferences in terms of products and services, a new direction with regards to where the market is heading, constantly changing the educational level of the potential manpower or the technological changes...

Ethical News Coverage of Victims of Tragedy

Cooper tells the story from a personal viewpoint, as her niece Cheryl was killed in the explosion of TWA Flight 800. It was this tragedy that inspired her to take a look at how journalists handle stories, explore the concept of ethics, and to do what she could to change the way journalists behaved unethically when covering tragic stories (Johannesen, 2002).

Cooper bases the story around “four moments during which I, or someone close to me, articulated an ethical impulse about the situation; four moments that entail four distinct ethical concerns for media professionals who cover tragedies” (Johannesen, 2002, pg. 320). These moments occur when Cooper tells her partner that she realizes the media will be arriv...

OConnors Fiction and Debates on Good and Evil

This paper shall seek to engage with works of O’Connor’s fiction and related debates on good and evil. O’Connor argues that good and evil are relative states and while a person may not be good at a certain point of time, he or she may, through another lens, appear so.
One such instance is the character of Francis Tarwater from the novel The Violent Bear It Away. On the one hand, one may think of him as a despicable character who murders a differently-abled child who is related to him. This murder is also committed at the behest of a character named Vice who is almost always associated with the devil, who is the embodiment of evil in many narratives. The murder, however, also becomes a symbolic baptism as far...
