I can understand that typing abilities and the use of computers are very important skills to have in today’s society and that electronic documents may reduce paper use (debatable), but writing is not something that can just be walked away from. I feel that writing is more than a form of communication. The physical act of writing may be integral to the learning process since it adds a personal element (visual style comes to mind, but you described the experience well in your discussion) that is not found in typing. You can select fonts, but the act of writing is a creative art form, which is another aspect lost when writing is neglected. What do you think about writing as an art form? Read More

...Discussion Question Response Your response to this week’s discussion question on feedbacks was well answered and elaborated. I concur with you line of argument about how a sender may receive feedback for messages they send. Your definition and explanation of what constitutes a feedback was authentic. Communication is certainly the most important concept not only in business but also in life (Guffey and Loewy 2). As you stated, feedback may come in a variety of ways. Asking for clarification is an ingenious way of giving a feedback. It simply tells the sender that you understand the message but you will not mind getting more information concerning the message. Restating the message also qualifies as a feedback as it assures the sender...

DISCUSSION QUESTION RESPONSE

Discussion Response Effective communication is a two-way traffic concept in that effectiveness is achieved when the sender and the receiver understand each other. I totally agree with you that listening is among the core concept of efficient communication. If the receiver were a poor listener, they will not understand the content communicated and thus may end up giving the wrong feedback. A positive response indicates that the receiver has understood the message or is interested with the topic at hand. On the other hand, a negative response indicates that the receiver did not understand the message or is bored with the subject.

DISCUSSION QUESTION RESPONSE

... and Number Discussion Response Hi Aaron, I enjoyed reading your post. I definitely think you are right about the useof visual aids and resources when trying to persuade a boss. I think maybe this is because a boss tends to be a very busy person and is therefore seeking to absorb as much information in the shortest amount of time. Also, the use of visual resources is helpful in dealing with a boss because of the fact that it shows a boss that the person has put a lot of time and effort into preparing a presentation, which provides invaluable insight into that employee’s personal and professional character. I think the use of hand gestures is also very true for communication with a peer. Do you think that slang or jargon might also...

DISCUSSION QUESTION RESPONSE

... and Number Discussion Response Hi Kristine, I enjoyed reading your post. I like how you talked about the importance of being factual and direct when dealing with a boss. I think that is definitely a key way to persuade a person who is in this particular position. I also like that you mentioned repetition after the initial presentation of facts. Sometimes, in a presentation, it can be difficult to remember everything that has been said, and I think this is especially true for a boss figure because they have so much on their plate anyway. Repetition/reiteration is a great way to conclude this type of interaction. I also completely agree with what you said about dealing with a challenging person in terms of gossip and jokes. I had...

... Discussions With the vast expansions of companies in recent decades, do the traditional management structures still apply? As a company grows, its management style changes fit to which the organization will be functioning at its utmost performance. The writer chooses language that initiates the type of relationship desired with the reader. According to Ivanic and Simpson, using the pronoun I in writing makes the writer more responsible for their ideas and sets the stage for the writer to assert personal, original ideas. After seeing the words I used in a text, readers are able to trust the writer that the ideas put forward have actually been thought about. Ivanic and Simpson characterize the roles of everyone involved in the process of a student undertaking a writing assignment. First, there is the instructor assigning the writing assignment...

Gender Pay Gap: A Discussion

The Gender Pay Gap is demonstrated by the fact that it is a consistent and widely observed phenomenon that women earn less than men (Becker, 1957/1985; Bergmann, 1974). Aside from this, there has been sufficient evidence that this form of wage discrimination exists in many cases for no other objective reason other than gender. This is proven by many examples of employers giving higher wages to men with the same position or qualifications as women.

Many academic and workplace studies have attempted to explain why this gap exists because such forms of discriminatory wage practices are a form of inefficient allocation of economic resources (Wharton, 2006; Blau & Kahn, 1992).

Since wages reflect the economic...

All biological matter contains inorganic and organic compounds dissolved or suspended in water. This is a protoplasm. The smallest structural and functional component of protoplasm that can exist freely in the cell (Suntharalingam et al, 2005, p. 485). It is just necessary to study the effects of radiation at the cellular level to truly understand the factors that affect biological tissues. Cells are of two types – somatic cells and germ cells. Of these somatic cells have three subtypes – stem cells (cells that generate other cells through differentiation), transit cells (cells that are in the state of being transformed from one type of cell to another) and mature cells (cells that are fully differentiated and are rela...

Description of Two Established Personality Assessment Tools: Discussion of Strengths and Weaknesses

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) was developed in the 1930s by Harvard University psychiatrist Henry A. Murray and university student Christiana Morgan in the pursuit of identifying personality characteristics and unconscious human desires (Bosshardt, 2004). TAT assessments generally consist of 31 different cards in which varying ambiguous illustrations and photos are displayed, asking participants to respond to their interpretations of what is occurring within each visual image. Internal conflicts or motivational desires are generally projected by participants who are exposed to TAT assessments, allowing psychologists to determine the personality constructs of individuals.

A variety of methods have been devised to help people overcome their initial fear and get started with the writing process.  Some suggest starting with general research and others might promote the use of stages or steps in order to get the paper done. Situational and Behavioural Interview Question

Structured interviews aim to promote objectivity and minimize objectivity which is inherent in unstructured interviews. This makes these two types of interviews more valid and reliable than the unstructured one when being used for HR recruitment and selection processes.

Over the years, structured interviews have gained popularity in the corporate world. Situational interviews are one type of structured interviews (Mauer, Solamon, & Troxtel 1998, 128; Mauer et al. 2001, 709).

In a situational interview, the questions revolve around a given situation or scenario where the interviewee is supposed to answer what she will likely do in order to address the situation (Huffcutt et al. 2001, 619-620). The question...

However, use of SICCT test does not produce confidence levels required to ascertain the success of the tests. The diagnostic sensitivity of the SICCT test is estimated to be between 52-100% with a median value of 80% using the standard interpretation of the test. Factors attributed to the inaccuracy, and the poor sensitivity of the test include among many; the...
