They go about achieving these objectives by usually coming up with a defined set of the syllabus of academic content and coordinating the knowledge provided with the defined set of topics in the syllabi. Schools hardly follow any other approach or want to deviate from the academic syllabus drawn up.
This methodology of schools is met with mixed views by individuals all around the world. Some individuals tend to think that as school is an only proper source of education or learning experiences for most students; it should not only emphasize the academic content but should also work towards the personality and character development of students. Common ethical values such as discipline, honesty, and uprightness should be emphasized and instilled in students from school so they know their responsibilities as a citizen and a human being.
These individuals tend to think that providing people with a formal qualification and a degree is not quite enough. This world is becoming a worse abode to survive because of the high level of corruption and immorality in the people who are living in it. A school has some responsibility in nipping the evil in the bud and to try and improve the future generation of people and make them responsible and conscientious. When schools only provide a formal qualification and do not instill the right moral and ethical values, it is likely that the students are likely to misuse their qualifications in the future by deceitful and illegal methods.
In contrast, some individuals believe that schools should only stick to providing academic knowledge. After all, it is not the school's job to teach ethics to its students. Many schools nowadays, exist with the aim of profit-maximization and provide services only for what they are paid, that is, to teach according to the set syllabus. Schools usually do not offer to accept further responsibilities and so we see, professional accountants, graduating from universities but one hardly comes across an honest accountant who also knows his job.
In a nutshell, in order to make this world a better place to live in and to make our society pleasant, schools need to accept the responsibility of providing formal academic education along with building the concept of teamwork, veracity, trustworthiness, and other ethical values in students.
