Task: Initial Framework of a Thematic Language and Literacy Learning Package The Thematic Language and Literacy Learning will target young students. Besides, their age range from nine years to sixteen years. They are majorly students from grade 1. Most of these students are young and needs some thorough explanation for them to grasp what is being taught. Besides, some other materials like charts, books and chalk boards are required to successfully teach them. Almost all the students are able to speak English thus communicating to them will not be a hard task. This will be different from a class with students speaking different language as it will require somebody who can translate what is being taught. Some learning materials like movie viewing tools are also necessary. They are majorly used to enhance the student’s memory. According to Pressley, the teacher is supposed to motivate the students, so that they can easily connect the past lessons with the current one and make learning enjoyable. Additionally, providing viable examples to the various studies and providing the necessary guidelines will improve student’s understanding of the various topics being taught. For the students of this grade, the main theme will be; playing for healthy child development. The first topic will be about playing to live. This topic is will majorly be taught to provide information about the importance of playing to the human life. Besides, they are also expected to know the various aspects of playing. The second topic will be about physical education. This topic will be majorly discussing the various reasons why physical education was introduced in the curriculum. Besides, they are expected to go and play in the after some class studies. They are also supposed to be taught on the importance of P.E to their physical and mental health. The third topic is about eating healthy foods. The main objective of this topic is to ensure that the students are aware of the various types of food that are useful to the health of an individual. They are also expected to know the categories of the various foods, for instance, carbohydrates and proteins. The fourth topic will be about parental guidance. At the end of the lesson, students will be expected to be able to give the definition of parental guidance. Besides, they are not only going to be taught the various aspects of parental guidance. The firth topic will dwell on the playing gargets. Here, the students are expected to know the various types of playing gargets and their applications during the physical exercise. The sixth topic is about selecting the preferred playmates. It will discuss the importance of choosing the right playmate who can actively contribute when playing. The last topic will be about Scheduling regular play times. The students will be taught how to manage their time and know the best time for playing and doing other thing that can improve their health. Format for the output: Grade 1 Theme: Playing for healthy child development Topics: The topics are arranged randomly Selections/author/genre Readability (quantitative analysis)/interest/features (qualitative analysis) Objectives Expressive Instructional Playing to live Zuzee961 / short story The text can be easily read and understood by students of grade 1 since it has a Fog reading grade of 8.0. Additionally, it has a good plot as it is interesting. The students are expected to realize that playing improves an individual’s physical health. Besides, they are expected to interpret what they have learned to their normal life. By the end of the lesson, students are expected to identify some words that have the same meaning as the ones used in the book. Additionally, they are expected to describe the settings of the story. Physical education (P.E) Shephard /essay The text can be read with a lot of ease and understood by students of grade 1 because it has a Fog reading grade of 8.0. It also has a good plot because it leaves the reader with a lot of suspense. Students are expected to realize that Physical Education (P.E) is part of the importance of personal responsibility to the family life. They are also expected to be creative in their reading so that they can easily interpret what they have read. Students are supposed to compare the different traits found in the book. Additionally, they are expected to study the various skills used. Eating healthy foods Wattpad/short story Using the fry formula to determine the readability, the lines of the two averages did not fall within the gray area thus it was easy to read. Moreover, it has a good characterization since the reader is able to memorize what he or she has read. By the end of the lesson, the students are expected to be well conversant with the various types of food that can improve the health of an individual. Additionally, they are expected to be creative and able to interpret what they have learned to their normal life. By the end of the lesson, students are expected to identify some words that have the same meaning as the ones used in the book. Additionally, they are expected to describe the settings of the story. Parental guidance Edwin Jones/fable Using the fry formula to determine the readability, the lines of the two averages did not fall within the gray area thus it was easy to read. It also has a good characterization because it is easy to memorize. Students are expected to interpret what they have learned to their real life situation. They are also expected to be creative in their reading so that they can easily interpret the importance of parental guidance. Students are supposed to compare the different traits found in the book. Besides, they are also expected to study the various skills used. Additionally, it has a good characterization and plot as it can easily be read. The reader can also memorize what he or she has read. Various students are expected be able to choose their preferred playmates. They are also expected to know the truth about selecting the right playmate.. By the end of the lesson, students are expected to identify some words that have the same meaning as the ones used in the book. Additionally, they are expected to describe the settings of the story. Scheduling regular play times Johns H/essay It has a high readability. This is evident when it was using the fry formula where by the lines of the two averages did not fall within the gray area. In addition, it has a good characterization since the reader is able to memorize what he or she has read Students are expected to describe the setting of the story. Additionally, they are expected to interpret what they have learned to their normal life. Various students are expected to be well conversant with the major setting of the story. Besides, they are also expected to study the various skills used. All the lessons and relevant topics will be taught in grade 1. They are going to be taught the various topics related to the theme (Playing for healthy child development). The topics will be covered stepwise starting with the first going through up to the last. Besides, the respective topics are arranged randomly where the topic are independent of each other. Various authors of various books used are also indicated. After the authors, quantitative and qualitative analysis is done on each and every topic giving relevant clarifications. The analysis provides information on what is expected of the students at the end of various lessons. It also indicates what students are supposed to achieve in their various lessons. Expressive and instructional objectives are also discussed into details giving relevant and vital examples. Expressive objectives indicate the relevant experiences achieved. In addition, instructional objectives are initiated to integrate the various reading skills learned in class into thematic units. To successfully achieve the above goals, the teacher should also use some appealing teaching methods and activities. Moreover, he or she should develop some system like widening the assessment procedures. This would solve the problem of poor reading skills being experienced by most of the students. The teacher is required to use some teaching gargets, textbooks, opaque projector and videotaped recorder. There were numerous problems encountered in Thematic Language and Literacy Learning. Most of the classrooms did not use the instructional materials; instead they were full of textbooks and chalkboard display. Additionally, the textbooks were not enough and most of them had wrong spellings and inappropriate grammatical structures. Some had a lot of vocabulary control and mainly majored on the isolated reading skills. The solution to the above problem was solved by using some other textbooks that had few and more distinctive words, those with highly developed characters and those which had complicated plots. The use of various textbooks also assisted in avoiding the minor mistakes that were common when a single textbook was used. The other problem is that character of reading and writing has not been altered to fit into the new system. The content and reasons for doing various exams in classrooms have also not changed. The students were encouraged to develop positive attitude towards reading. The assessment tools were also changed by widening the evaluation procedures and materials. Besides, they were replaced by more alternative approaches. Rapid technological advancement was also another common problem being faced by the teachers. Most of the new teaching materials were still not familiar to the students thus it took them a lot of time to adopt to teaching using some equipments like video tapes. The teacher was able to counter this problem by recording some lessons which they could use later. Moreover, the teacher moved around the class to help each student by explaining the tasks.
