?Qualitative Study Evaluation No: Introduction This assignment is about an evaluation of qualitative study. The main reason of doing that evaluation is to evaluate how authentic the author is, a qualified teacher ask to observe out of her field by using qualitative writing and collect the data by analyzing actions. Evaluation of the Title The title of the topic is “Qualitative Study Evaluation” in which I will discuss the qualities, worth and importance of qualitative study. Qualitative method consists of observation by looking people’s action, interviewing and recording etc. This is totally different from quantitative method because in quantitative method, data is collected through scientific research method. The title does not reflect the phenomenon being studied; it also does not reflect the people and the site being studied. All the information is collected through article. Title of the qualitative study means that teacher and students are being observed in a school setting (Creswell, 2008). Evaluation of the Problem Statement The main issue which is discussed by the author is that proper training and preparation is essential for unfamiliar or unexpected teaching assignments. The author used his personal experience in his writing in which he discussed how teachers cope with the situations when they have to teach the subjects in which they are not skilled and qualified properly. The author also investigated how that teachers use their background knowledge and skills. This is a proof of qualitative approach which is done by author. Evaluation of the Review of the Literature The author’s action research approach has focused on the effects of action research when teacher teaches in and out of her fields. In her field means, in which she has a full knowledge while instructing and out of her fields in which her qualification is not applicable as she was given some background knowledge about an action research. There is no different review of the literature. APA style has been used for crediting or reference (Creswell, 2008). Evaluation of the Purpose and Research Questions The author specifies using action research to examine how teachers react, who are asked to instruct out of their fields and how they used their previous knowledge and experience. The main question arises in the mind is that how do that type of teachers prepare their lessons for instruction? The main reason of the research indicates that author is herself a teacher. She has done that action research project with herself and her students are the participants of that research project and the classroom is the foremost site of the research project (Creswell, 2008). Evaluation of Data Collection The author uses several steps of action research for collecting data that are planning, monitoring and reflecting etc. As author was a practicing teacher, the steps to gain assess to the site and students were not listed but would expected be the same steps which are necessary to make qualified in the required field of instructions. The author’s sampling was restricted to the students under her guidance. She did not follow special steps for data sampling; on the contrary she did common methods for data sampling with her students with her students who have their journals for data collection. The data collection does not consist of large scale it only consisted of author herself and her students. For the data collection, she has adopted certain protocols for completing her task like she has taken permission from the guardians of the students and school authorities as well. The data was collected from the four sources that are; her own reflective journal, journals recorded and set aside by the students, consultation from a previous English teacher and the tape recording of the first and last lessons of the studied class period. This is confirmation that from four ways author has collected data which is mentioned above (Dicker, 1990). Evaluation of Data Analysis and Findings In this step the data which is collected by doing several steps will be analyzed properly. As data is also recorded from the tape recorder as I have discussed in the above paragraph in which recording of first and last chapter was done, so this data will be used for authentic text analysis. These analyses were used to analyze the author’s teaching style which she explained her teaching style in philosophy while he was teaching math and drama. She has recorded all her lesson in her journal and her students have recorded in their journals. Through this recorded data of journals, she analyzed that theme of the mathematics is to solve the given problems to find the right answer, while the theme of the drama is that to show that type of stories having daily life problems and in that stories solutions of the problems are also shown. The information which is collected permitted the author to interrelate the directed style of teaching with cooperative student learning. This analysis on math and drama has answered the main question that is do teachers use their prior knowledge when they teach outside in their field? So this analysis explains that teachers use their prior knowledge like authors uses her prior knowledge of philosophy in mathematics and drama. These observations are based on teacher observation as well as the teacher and the student’s opinion and are completely based on reality and effects of using prior knowledge while teaching mathematics and drama are also analyzed while teaching in a newly created communication class. The findings which are collected by the author in the shape of themes, in which description of class of mathematics and drama were explained in the style of philosophy which is her original field of instruction and these themes were also recorded in her journal (Dicker, 1990). Evaluation of the Writing The author’s observation is informative and written in understandable and convincing style. It is written in a story style that covers all the details of her action research. Basically article is written for the teachers who faced that type of situation, like if they have to instruct out of their fields. Conclusion The author has written that article in a scholarly manner in which she explains all her experience in a narrative style. The basic purpose of the article is to register the author’s experience and observation when she teaches outside to her field while using her prior knowledge. Also this article having the information how the teacher tackle with the problems when they have to instruct outside of their fields and how they use their prior knowledge in different field while instructing. APA style has been used for detailing this evaluation for formatting and referencing. References Creswell, J. ( 2008).
