My chosen topic is on alcohol abuse by adolescent children and the contribution of their parents towards reducing, delaying or abandonment of the behavior. This research is useful as alcohol abuse among young adolescent children aged between 11 to 17 face severe consequences related to alcohol abuse such as accidents as result of drunkenness, dismissal from school, career ruin and a basis for future irresponsible behaviors which can cause alcohol-related health problems such as liver cirrhosis and lung cancer.

The prevalence of adolescent drinking has led to the deaths of young children especially when linked to an early age of around 11 years to 17 years. According to the statistics from Alcohol Alert; published by the US Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 5, 000 youths aged below 21 years of age die annually as a result of early exposure to underage drinking.The deaths range from motor vehicle accidents, suicides and homicides and other miscellaneous alcohol-related causes such as drowning, falls, fire month others.

Surveys conducted on alcohol abuse in young adolescents indicate that the abuse rate is going higher with the passing on days. For instance, a survey done in 1995 indicated that adolescents started drinking at the early age of 171/2 years. Another survey done in 2003 indicated that the minimum age of drinking had has dropped to 14 years. This is a concern to parents to adopt lifestyle parenting which helps their adolescents go through the stage successfully without ruining their lives in alcohol.
