HUDA HUDA Narrative The design of my residence is based on a space. The design is based on utilization of a small space considering that the occupant will be using the space for sleeping, studying, meals, and washing up. The small room is designed for utilitarian purposes focusing on the maximization of space. The arrangement of the room considers that the occupant may have guest and may need to share the sanitation facilities. While considering the furnishing of the space, the design of the room incorporates sliding doors as space savers. Considerations of lighting up the room are done with the fitting of a window in the bedroom, living room and the kitchen and dining area. The kitchen/dining area and the living room are separated by the use of an open space, which increases the operational space in the room (Chamberlain, Murphy and Guillou 67). The budget constraints in the design of the room include fitting of the utilities. Some of the fittings in the room such as the sliding doors and the shower W/C setting focus on space but maintenance are also expensive. There are also high costs associated with the strengths of the materials used in the construction of lightweight fittings. Content Floor plans of the design. Window treatments Window treatments Details The minimum window dimensions are 2 X 3 ft. whereas the maximum are 3.6 x 5 ft. The design of the window is based on a garden window since the main aim of the windows is lighting of the rooms. The windows make use of sliding bevels to minimize on the space used up in the design and operations of the windows. The cost of the window details is based on the costs of the materials used. The costs are based on the formula: Cost of glass + cost of wooden and metal fittings + cost of window settings + labor. The wall covering used in the design covers the entire wall except the window. The choice of the wall cover is based on the material that is low maintenance and long lasting. The choice of the wall covering is wallpaper to ease the personal tastes of occupants. The wallpaper is fitted by the occupant, in the event they do not like the existing paper. The formula in establishing the costs of the wallpaper is determined by the difference in area. This is (wall area – window area) x wallpaper cost per unit area. The color scheme of the wall cover is determined by personal preferences, as there is a wide range of wallpapers in the market. The texture and feel of the wallpaper differs to and this too is down to the personal preferences and taste. Selection of material for the space is based on utilization of the space. The floor plans above contain the basic requirements of the space, which include a bed, a sofa, and a table. Other utilities such as a cooker shall be determined by the preferences of the occupant.
