Sustainable Fashion al affiliation Sustainable Fashion or Fast Fashion In my studio I am working on a collection based on sustainable fashion. First, I started my project getting my inspiration from Origami, which is a special technique of paper folding. As I go further into my project, I also wanted to point out to a global issue, which identifies me as a designer because I consider myself as a Greenpeace enthusiast and a passionate about environment sustainability. I came up with the idea of sustainability while I was taking an elective class called Zero Waste Garment. In this particular class, the intention is to use 100 percent of sustainable fabrics in our draping, pattern making, and our actual final garments. The main intention of this project was to design a cohesive collection based on a specific inspiration by using sustainable fabric. Undertaking the action also creates a public awareness of a global issue such as Fast Fashion and Sustainability in the fashion industry. Sustainable fashion is a fashion that aims to be environmentally friendly. It is part of the larger trend of "ethical fashion,". It is not a new trend that is has been said `Sustainable Fashion is not a short-term trend, but one that could last multiple seasons. ‘Vogue, May 2007. While environmentalism used to be distinct in fashion through a percentage of sales being donated to a charitable cause, most of the fashion designers have recently adopted the idea of sustainability. They are using more environment friendly materials and methods in clothing production. Designers claim that they are trying to incorporate these sustainable practices into modern clothing, rather than producing "dusty, hippy-looking clothes." Sustainable fashion is essentially more expensive than clothing produced by conventional methods. Regarding the Sharpen Sustainable Fashion by Gwitt A. and Rissanen T. from week 4, it is easy to relate the idea of sustainable fashion with some elements. ‘While achieving sustainability is the goal of sustainable development, the word ‘sustainability has several meanings in the todays world and is frequently reduced by associating it with ‘environment. Some people define sustainability as the balance between three elements: economy, environment, and social equity. However, since human are struggling with ecological balance in every aspect, can we really make a remarkable change in Fashion Industry by using Fashion Industry by using Sustainable Fashion? Considering the sustainability as a main point in the world of fashion industry, point, designers should aim to design clothes that are meant to last as long as it is possible. They should believe in creating pieces that are not going to get burned, that are not going to landfills that are not going to damage the environment. For this particular project, I was always kept asking myself what I have done to make these garments more sustainable and what else can I do more to make fashion sustainable. I am opinionated that turning fashion into sustainable is still at the base level and needs improvement. The main philosophy behind sustainable fashion is that is better to do something than nothing. Sustainability is equally important as is recycling. Everyone can perform simple tasks to make a difference for the environment that we are living in; every little effort does count. Nowadays, It is the job of fashion designers to turn ideas on their head in various ways and not just try to turn a dress on its head every season. They should consider where they are making the garments and most importantly what materials they are using to create them. I believe that a better way to create sustainable fashion is by seeking answers to these questions while ensuring to make desirable, luxurious, beautiful, clothing and accessories that consumers want to buy. However, the term "fast fashion" refers to low-cost clothing collections that imitate current luxury fashion trends. Fast fashion helps to fill deeply reserved desires among young consumers in the industrialized world for luxury fashion, even as it represents the unsustainable. The trend of fast fashion (called fast because it is produced quickly in order to recent trends and is carefully designed for a short shelf life), is a recent development in the fashion world. It is made possible by globalization, and eagerly embraced by consumers. Researches made for young fast fashion devotees in Hong Kong and Canada demonstrated that despite the young consumers who value sustainability, they still have a blind spot when it comes to fashion. However, they may care deeply about eating organic foods, but fast-fashion consumption is release from such moral decisions. Such an approach can be explained by the fact that youthful consumers may fail to apprehend full issues of sustainability, in particular, the destructive future environmental risks related to unsustainable production. Both the fast fashion consumer and the fast fashion retailer have greatly benefited from this arrangement. The familiar sustainability rotation is to reduce, reuse and recycle. In most of the studies about fast fashion, it is proven that, the activity of recycling was followed by most participants faithfully separating their trash for pickup. But they engaged in little reuse of the material and hardly any reduction in the level of consumption. However, A few participants did feel guilty for throwing out clothes purchased just weeks earlier. Continuous consumption is sharpened and encouraged by fast fashion companies such as Top-shop, Zara, and H&M. How can consumers, especially young ones, resist the temptation of an ever-changing arrangement of inexpensive, of-the-moment fashions? Nowadays, even the youngest adults were torn between their desires for trendy outfits and their beliefs about saving the planet with less consumption. Most people who identify themselves an environmentalist has a very significant disconnection between the value placed on sustainability and undertaken actions when it came to clothing. To conclude, most people are still unaware of the hidden price tag of fashion when shopping. Fashion companies are also recognized as having little knowledge of what happens in the supply chain, which renders it hard for them to make sound decisions about sustainability But the question is ‘Can We Make a Remarkable Change in Fashion Industry by Using Sustainable fashion?` Sustainable fashion is ultimately about more than just the environment, or just human rights, or just lifestyle. Its about living a true and honest life to all of the principles and beliefs. In fact, its a complete approach to the industry that pays respect to the human capital, the environment, longevity of a product and the end consumer, at every level. Sustainability is salutary and timeless. References Brito, M. P., Carbone, V., & Blanquart, C. M. (2008).
