Interior Design The field of interior design is currently on the rise, it is anticipated to grow at very fast rates within the coming years. Interior design will offer many job opportunities that include; office and home interior design. Other options are; landscape design, furniture design, architectural advisor, and safety inspector (San Martin 2007). My passion lies in the field of home design and in order for me to become a recognized interior designer, I must obtain a higher level degree from an accredited institution. A higher degree will help me to get the relevant training and experience. The future of interior design will require an individual who has taken the course on textile basics. This course will provide me with a better understanding of the many types of fibers and the various designs that can be achieved by using man-made fibers. The course also teaches students the different stitch and knit methods that can be done manually; such skills will be vital in order to come up with signature designs. Surveys done across the design industry reveal that Americans will be residing in small spaces and fewer rooms within the next five years. Design professionals also note that formal rooms will gradually become extinct. Dining rooms will change to multipurpose rooms with small home offices; children study rooms and entertainment spots. Multipurpose spaces will be developed from separate rooms with the type of furniture in use being moveable, modular and smaller scaled. Dining rooms will give way to eat-in kitchens and technology will be heavily incorporated, for example; sensor and voice activation and spa baths. Low maintenance homes with real gardens will become prevalent. As a future designer, I will keep updated with such trends and keep designing future homes. Callison offers retail and commercial services while specializing in graphic design, program management, master planning, entertainment and sustainable design. Forrec Initially based in Toronto, Canada, Forrec is a design and planning firm specializing in the design of leisure and entertainment environments all over the globe. Forrec have been in the industry for over forty years, and this provides them with a vast experience to incorporate design creativity with financial practicality. Forrec has worked with Paramount studio city, Universal studio and the World Wrestling Entertainment. Interior design by Forrec is done in such a way that it connects to the brand to impress the customer or the user of that particular brand. Forrec design culture is headlined by the collaborative design process (Forrec.com). This multidisciplinary design culture enables them to use unconventional thinking and creative tools to perform different tasks. Forrec has set its business on international clients with their present project being the Universal studio in Dubai where Forrec is planning on landscape, interior architecture and show designs. Home studio Centara Resort interior design Working on an international level has provided the company with more entertainment opportunities, for example, the Multi-use commercial developments. Forrec has started projects that add value to malls, rather than malls being about retail, they now serve as theme-based entertainment spots. Multi-disciplinary function enables Forrec to come up with many ideas drawn from its multicultural workforce. McCallum Sather Architects McCallum Sather Architects is a design company situated in Hamilton, Ontario. MSA provides residential design, interior design, commercial design, land planning, master planning and construction administration services. Office designs are done in small and large scale projects. Types of projects include speculative and custom residential, specialized office buildings, commercial retail, educational facilities, religious places and restaurants (Msarch.ca). MSA’s design culture consists of heavy involvement by the principles. Each and every project begins by working hand in hand with the client to understand their needs. They are, for this reason, able to build designs according to the customer’s specifications. All of these companies are different, especially in the way they work, mentor young designers and fields of specialization. Callison specializes in graphic design, program management, master planning, entertainment and sustainable design. Forrec specializes in designing of leisure and entertainment environments with the majority of their businesses being international. McCallum Sather Architects specialize in home and office designs but also branch to religious places, restaurants and educational facilities (Glassdoor). All these firms are ideal places to work because all of them offer a different appeal. For me, Callison is more appealing because of their design culture that values the designer as the most valued asset. Design dialogues will provide a young designer with an avenue to share ideas and designs.CAL U, which is the firm’s professional development program would be able to support a young designer to grow his or her career. Design excellence is where, projects are displayed to undergo reviews and discussions, and this has the potential to strengthen one’s designs. Use of technology through sustainable design will enable a developer to come up with up to date designs that are relevant to the current trends.
