What made Gaga stand out is not just the quality of her voice but her way of dressing as well. She usually colors her hair and dresses weirdly as if telling people, “I was born this way so you cannot judge me”. Her image in the photo also portrays such character, using a mask usually used by male hero characters and also a glove which was not viewed feminine, at least decades ago.Nudity is often understood to be nakedness. However, according to John Berger, the two are not synonymous.

Quoting the author’s exact words, he describes nakedness and nudity as “To be naked is to be oneself. To be nude is to be seen naked by others and yet not recognized for oneself”. Paris Hilton is not naked at all in the image. Nevertheless, based on Berger’s definition, it could be said that she is naked because she is posing not for herself but for her audiences. Furthermore, Berger says, “To be on display (nude) is to have the surface of one’s own skin, the hairs of one’s own body, turned into a disguise…” (54).

The exposure of Hilton’s hair is a part of her nudity, reflecting her passion. As Berger mentions, “Hair is associated with sexual power, with passion” (55).
