Cultural Diversity Assessment Cultural diversity assessment Introduction There has been a tremendous cultural transformation in media and journalism attributes. Media personality and celebrities have significantly impacted on personality traits of many young people. Because of their media coverage and stylish presentation, they easily transmit certain attributes to their followers. Some of the areas that media celebrities have influenced include clothing, language and general body aesthetic. My personal aspect I value in my career is liberal culture in journalism. Liberal attribute refers to openness in addressing issues, however controversial it is. I find Perez Hilton; an American blogger and television personality presents my iconic example in virtue of liberalism. Fried (2013) article identifies Perez openness and liberal culture are perhaps the most controversial character that has attracted many admirers and haters in equal measure. In his social media blog Perezhilton.com, he engages events and celebrities in an open manner in sensitive areas that include gender and sexuality. His believe in openness and discussing issues with liberal manner landed him in controversy. Evidently, during an interview with Cliché Magazine in June 2010, he said that his blogging was not only a hobby, but the site where he would engage with celebrities (Fried 2013). Hidentified that celebrities are far from entertaining and their lives out to be discussed in public. Hiltons angle of engaging in celebrity gossip is driven by a desire to create a check and balancing platform where celebrities posh television shows reflect on the ground. It is one of the cultural belief that I value most in life, the ability to match the talk with action (Galow 2011). It is a value that I envision that should make celebrity. A real celebrity identifies the need to remain natural and real to contemporary journalism practice. True to this spirit, Hilton persistence helped nurture London-based singer Milka into a superstar by 2007 (Fried 2013). In her recognition comments, she identified Hilton criticism as springboard into enhancing media responsible behavior. Holmes & Redmond (2012) states that Hilton Interaction with other celebrities was perhaps the most troubling on July 26, 2006 when he reported Lance Bass as gay. It is quite strange that his blog attracted hatred and bitter criticism from other celebrities because of reporting what the person in question had admitted. Because of his devout conviction in reporting facts as they are he reacted saying "I dont think it is a bad thing. If you know something to be a fact, why not report it?” (Fried 2013) His comments affirm his earlier conviction that media culture should be built on the ground of reporting bare facts. Certainly, this was a courageous report that had a controversy, but he preferred to let his followers know. It was appropriate to do so given his cultural belief of liberal reporting on celebrities. Besides, on November 2, 2006 he was at it again when he revealed another celebrity Neil Patrick as a secret member of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance (Frost 2011). Kim Ficera later wrote in AfterElton.com site that Hilton was too intrusive and had a habit of attacking personality of fellow celebrity. In a quick response, he wondered why people would hide his identity yet want to display what he is not to the public. He identified that if one cannot stomach his personal blogs and comments to the media, he should quit public space. He envisions the fundamental foundation of social media and contemporary celebrity practice. He wondered why a public figure would wish to live in a closet at night and fill the media coverage during the day. However, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAD) spokesperson Kim Ficera criticized him for engaging in private life criticism and on issues that people would find difficult to reveal (Goldman 2011). Whichever the case, the revelation through celebrity gossip engineered by Hilton is perhaps the reality of media liberalization. Furthermore, he has come into disagreement with fellow bloggers, and he considers disagreements part of professional growth. His character is built on a solid foundation of continuous correction and personal growth under liberalism. In 2006, Trent Venega, who runs"Pink Is the New Blog" and David Hauslaib of Jossip (Gorin & Dubied 2011).com admitted that Hilton was within his rights to subject celebrity into scrutiny. However, the freedom to do so should not get personal and sensitive areas of sexuality and racism. They both questioned his claim that he was doing so in order to allow a gay community come out within communities. It was the most controversial thing to do that put his cultural belief on gender and sexuality under scrutiny. Surprisingly, his closest media personality friend Japhy Grant questioned the ethical and professionalism in his gay revelation agenda. Because of this specific attribute of honesty in media and blogger coverage, he was convinced that he did the right things without any ill intention. Moreover, his life as a journalist is real, he works for better reporting and is open on issues. In his program, Radio Perez from May 2008 to January 2009, he asked celebrities to live up to societal expectations (Fried 2013). He was fierce about celebrity isolation from where they grew up; he expressed disappointment on how Michael Jackson life ended despite rising as a talented artist. Using Michael Jackson allegation of drug use and a minor gay allegation he expressed disappointment on media poor coverage of the other negative part of his life. The fact that he was a celebrity does not negate the crucial need of media scrutiny that goes beyond stage performance. His culture on open space media and liberal journalism made his site a platform of celebrity exchanges and side shows. Moreover, he believes in direct engagement with whoever attacks his character. In 2011, he went aggressive with Lady Saga in an exchange of words that culminated in a dramatic Twitter exchanges (Fried 2013). One of the surprising incidents was the fact that he had given an honest comment on professional misfortunes of Saga after her dwindling music career. Although it was unwarranted to engage in public sideshows, Hilton showed resilience when Saga claimed that he was using cocaine in what appeared a fightback. In a replying tweet, he urged her to provide substantive evidence on her allegation. He recognized the right of others to criticize, but requested such criticism should be factual. Again, he affirmed his conviction on truthful and liberal media. In relation to media cultural diversity, his criticism and direct controversy with other celebrities allow audience develop a positive view of issues. According to audience reception of media, media readings, blogs and television interviews however controversial provides material culture that help people build cultural meaning to events. In addition, ethnographic research identifies personal value; attribute and beliefs affect audience and shape their behavior and beliefs into more acceptable attributes. In engaging with celebrities through revelation and public criticism, Hilton nurtures spirit of outrageous courage and self-confidence among prospective journalist. During an interview with New York Times in 2007, he affirm that he would be very glad if the anyone report material fact about his personality (Frost 2011). It is a new dawn in journalism that help to overcome the fear of reporting evidential reports and a mental shift from ne-sided textualist orientation to a diverse culture journalism. He is convinced that he belief insensible, ethical and professional codes since he is a profession. However, he opposes media "fixed reporting" a behavior he terms it more harmful than unethical practice itself. Media coverage and professional journalism entail more than reading scripts (Fried 2013). He identifies investigative journalism as an important recipe to a vibrant journalism. He emphasizes to all celebrities that his ultimate goal is not to assassinate anybodys character, but if a celebrity wish to live in a closet, then they should quit media coverage. I am convinced that his thoughts and belief on talking his mind is an important cultural attribute that has been scarcely embraced. In a mature democracy, the extent of reporting on others should be expanded to include revelations that are of public concern. However, it should be objective, free of malice and purposeful. In order to promote responsible celebrity identity, it is wise to engage liberal journalism that limits personal space and allow positive public scrutiny. The overall aim of liberalism in journalism is to ensure that celebrities and media personality remain as authentic as possible (Goldman 2011). It removes double-standards and nurture positive criticism that enables media develop competent celebrities both as an individual and those around them. It would be embarrassing to have a celebrity in media arraigned in court for not meeting family obligations such as paying for school fees, rent and food. I agree with Hilton culture of opening family life to fans, it allows one keep in toes because media celebrity is an expensive life commitment that one should live with cameras all around. Conclusion Hilton cultural aspect of liberal and less restrictive media is a desirable attribute I greatly uphold. In order to make journalism as objective as possible, there should be more freedom to engage in real issues however personal they may seem. In subjecting celebrities into scrutiny and reporting what they hide in cameras and radio interviews, he displays an important media liberty that should define the 21st journalism training.
