Extract of sample "My Memory of Writing"

Writing My earliest memory of writing is about the story I did while at 4th grade. This story is so memorable because of the comic that characterized it given my age and naivety at that moment. It was a story about a children’s expedition we had set out to do in the nearby forest in my neighborhood. The fictitious story gave accounts of our encounters with the monkeys of Arbud Forest where we were undressed by the cheeky monkeys who were then to dress up in our clothes and whip us senseless for invading their space.

One such moment that I consider a turning point in the understanding of myself as a writer is when my essay wore the best creative under 12 writers’ prize in our home district. I entered a competition following my class teacher’s encouragement and true to his belief, my essay was judged the best. This has been a defining moment in my writing life and as such has made me have the impetus to write and write even more.
