It Is Not As Easy As It Looks
I have always loved dogs, I mean, how can you not? My heart swells with admiration every time I see someone walking their dog down the street, or playing with it in the backyard. Time and again I thought how wonderful it would be to add my name on the list of dog owners. I envisioned myself and Brandon, I had already chosen a name, side by side talking an evening stroll and probably attracting a few admiring glances here and there and playing all Saturday afternoon. I had visions that excited me so much I decided to get myself a dog despite being dissuaded by my family.
The first 6 hours with Brandon were the most exciting I had had since the month began. I could not get enough of him. I gave him a longer than necessary bath and continuously tried to feed him. Then I think he got tired of all my pestering, or maybe he just needed some alone time. He refused to play but I understood his point, even dogs need to rest sometimes. So I let him be.
By the end of the first week, I fully understood why members in my family were against the rush decision. Taking care of a dog is not easy regardless of how much training they have had. They still need training by the owner so as to adapt to the new home, something I was not prepared for and neither did I have any knowledge in.
Now I appreciate all the hard work that dog owners put in to turn the dogs into a disciplined admirable animal. Read More
