Illegal Immigration: An Unresolved Issue - Essay Example

Through this essay, I am going to discuss whether immigration is an actual problem or not? My first step to unearthing the answer was an article that was taught to us by our instructor named Amnesty? That was published in the magazine named America, by John F. Kavanaugh who was a Jesuit priest and simultaneously a professor of the subject philosophy at the St. Louis University. In this particular article, he writes up about the morality of the treatment that is meted out to the Immigrants who remain undocumented in the hands of the U.

S officials. He points and refers to the North American Free Trade Agreement or the NFTA and the problems that are associated with it. He also points out to the added burden of poverty that this treaty agreement provides on the already poor Mexico. He also records that there are many anti-immigration groups present in the U.S that continually show hostility toward these poverty driven people and how the seething hostile groups resist providing amnesty or legal status to these immigrants. Kavanaugh argues that although he realizes that unrestricted immigration would cause more and more harm to our country yet he also supports the idea that legalization should also be provided to those who contribute towards the upliftment of our country (Kavanaugh).

I personally found this write up highly interesting and the points quite impactful. However, the most important point that he missed discussing in his otherwise strong article is the problems that would be cussed if all the immigrants were allowed legalization. My second step towards the search for answers led me to another article, which too was a part of the discussion that we had in our class. It was an article from the magazine The American Conservative, titled Why Blame Mexico? by Fred Reed.
