Extract of sample "The Subjection of Women"

A wife is the pillar of the house; if she is strong the house will remain strong. She molds her children into better beings. By giving job opportunities to women, doors of power are opened and suppression neglected. Education can raise their status and the barrier of superiority and inferiority can be broken down, giving men strong competitors. Women aim at combining tough qualities with gentleness towards the helpless classes. The parents should know that unlikeness attracts but likeness retains.

If there is an understanding between a husband and a wife, the house becomes heavenly, but if it lacks, the situation is reversed. Husbands claim that the household work is the duty of a wife and it does not suit them to help them. Women by nature are soft-hearted, they would work as maids if appreciated and loved, without asking for their salary.
