Spring Assignment Name Course Instructor’s Name Institution Date How Business Research Can Help Dubai Police or Abu Dhabi Police in Improving its Services Business research involves conducting study in the field in order to identify the challenges and problems that a business may be experiencing to help improve decision making. Business research conducted in Dubai goes a long way in improving the quality of services provided by Abu Dhabi police. This is because business research directly and indirectly affects the decisions made by the police administration and also ensures that police apply performance measurement ethics. The first example to explain how business research has been used by police management to make its decisions is formation of a partnership between the Gulf Business Machines (GBM) and the Abu Dhabi Police. This occurred due to the emphasis by business research on the need of integrating the use of Information Technology (IT). The strategic relationship will ensure that GBM will upgrade the Information Technology infrastructure of the in the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters. Business research has established the role of improved IT to improve efficiency, effectiveness and flexibility of an organization through its various studies. In keeping up with Al-Zaabi et al (2012), Abu Dhabi Police GHQ aims to achieve this by improving the level of Information Technology in order to improve the services it offers to the public and how efficient they bare. By improving this infrastructure, Abu Dhabi Police GHQ will achieve effective running of its operations which will ensure the productivity gets to the optimal level. The second example that’s shows how business research has helped improved services provided by Abu Dhabi police is the new strategy by Abu Dhabi Police to ensure that all the actions by police are geared towards winning the trust of the Abu Dhabi society. According to Col Mohammed Al Hosani, who is the deputy director of Abu Dhabi Police’s Social Support Centre Department, the Abu Dhabi police have a responsibility of helping the community at all times. According to Al Menhali (2014), The Abu Dhabi police intend to achieve a solid base and have a good attachment with the community which will help gain the community’s trust. Business research outlines the importance of bridging the gap between any institutions which the Abu Dhabi police intend to fully apply so as to win the society’s trust. Ultimately, Abu Dhabi police has full intention of using business research to improve the services provides to the Abu Dhabi society. How I Evaluate My Research Based on Its Value and Cost. To evaluate is to assess the value and importance of something in a systematic manner. When conducting a summative evaluation on research I conduct cost-effectiveness analysis in order top understand its efficiency and standardize it by virtue of its costs and values. According to Monsen & Val (2008) evaluating a research based on its value and costs involves assessing the cost-benefits in order to achieve beneficial outcomes. When assessing any research I consider its impact i.e. the magnitude of the results and effects it brings forth which affects the implementation process. When the research is deep or very broad, for example one that enables me to analyze global trends, appraising the effects it cause socially and economically helps me evaluate its worth and merit so as to understand the importance of conducting such a research. In keeping up with Karlsson & Ryan (2007), the importance of any research can be assessed through a cost-value approach. When evaluating my research, one of the most important approaches is the cost value approach which involves not only basing my evaluation on cost and value but also assessing its features, attributes, and functions. Due to the fact that the value and costs of a research is very important in understanding how important the research is, I use economic rate of return (micro-economic and macro- economic analysis) to identify whether the research is worthwhile. Another way of evaluating my research on the basis of its value and costs is by comparing the cost being incurred and how effective the outcome of the research will be. For example, I consider what the research will prevent (crime, deaths etc) or what the research will improve (health, security etc) on the basis of costs. This is identifying the cost-effectiveness ratio. The other way of research evaluation I use is assessing what results of expanding the research will be. If the consequences are humongous or minimal helps me understand the importance of my research. This shows the benefits that will be gained by conducting the research. In summary, this type of evaluating research is termed to as benefit-cost analysis. How to choose the best design (qualitative or quantitative) and what is the common research based relationship between these two. The kind of research that one is carrying out dictates the research design that he/she will use. Quantitative research design is used when the researcher intends to understand trends and reasons in an exploratory research. Quantitative research design on the other hand is used when the researcher intends to generate certain quantities of numerical data. Creswell (2014) notes that quantitative design is best to use when the researcher wants to compare the data collected systematically. This is the situation when a researcher intends to conduct extensive comparisons so as to obtain general information about a research topic. On the other hand, qualitative methods are best when the researcher is doing exploration on a particular field. This gives the researcher more information about a topic which he had little or no knowledge about. Qualitative research also involves understanding reasons, meanings, ideas, and descriptions regarding the area of study. Quantitative design is used to measure particular variables so as to prove hypothesis and theories. It deals with statistics and numerical data collected in the field therefore it is best to use to answer research questions that have remained unquestioned and without criticism. The above two designs have several common research based relationships. When the research being conducted requires answering of questions and prove hypotheses using both designs helps induce depth and numbers to help a researcher come up with an optimal solution. According to Debboub & Meslati (2014), both designs provide the researcher with control over the research he/she is conducting. The researcher is able to prevent influence of variables which comes up simultaneously to avoid a large inaccuracy in the outcomes of the study. Thus the researcher is able to control casualty variables and elements. The designs are also reliable in that they bring replication whereby when used the results obtained can be obtained again when the research is redone. They provide reliable results and when used differently the results are relatively similar. This proves that there’s a common research based relationship between qualitative and quantitative research designs. References Al Menhali, M. G. M.
