REFLECTIVE PIECES Students Name: Course & Code: Professor’s name University City Date The Meaning of a Fulfilling Life A fulfilling life bases on various fundamental aspects which have to be achieved in an individual’s life (Clayton, 2010). Significantly, these three aspects determines whether one has fulfillment in life or not -being sure that one’s career will fulfill their lifetime desires, ensuring that their relationships with their spouses and families endures happiness forever and ensuring that one stays out of jail (Clayton, 2010). Consequently, achieving the three aspects poses a challenge to most people since it acts as a determinant of one’s fulfillment in life. Additionally, one’s personal experiences, events and situations make them determine whether they have a fulfillment in life or not. Therefore, there are various critical factors that one needs to be considered to ensure that they have a meaningful life. As such, the discussion below seeks to explain the meaning of a fulfilling life to me. Firstly, creating a strategy for your life plays an important role in ensuring a fulfillment life (Clayton, 2010). This theory considerably answers the aspect of finding and enduring happiness in one’s relationships with both the spouse and the family. Consequently, one needs to ensure that they do not let their careers, or any personal decisions affect their relationships with their spouses and family. Significantly, over the years most of the relationships unfold to divorce, some reunions end up being unhappy and some parents might be alienated from their children (Clayton, 2010). Evidently, such issues results from people who lack a specific personal strategy in their lives. Such people cannot find the meaning of a fulfilling life since their lives are based on quarrels and disagreements. Prudently, creating a personal strategy will help guide the person in not only choosing the right company but also solving problems in case they arise. Considerably, the strategy helps an individual to determine what is right for them and the people they relate with. Therefore, when one lacks a specific set personal strategy they will not determine the meaning of a fulfilling life (Clayton, 2010). Secondly, allocation of one’s resources determines the meaning of a fulfilling life (Clayton, 2010 p. 46-51). In regard to this, making decisions on how you allocate your resources which range from personal time, energy and talent shall ultimately shape your life and provide fulfillment. Basically, an individual might have a bunch of critical businesses that compete for the above mentioned resources. However, at the same time one needs to ensure that the resources are properly allocated in relation to career, family relationships and avoid any acts that might have negative consequences to them (Clayton, 2010 p. 46-51). Significantly, allocation choices can either make one’s life turn out to be very different from the way they wanted or achieve their personal goals. As such when allocating your resources you need to plan for emergencies that occur out of plan. As result, the critical resources should be given the first priority in one’s life; for instance, your career and own personal responsibilities have to be given the required resources. In regard to this for any individual to measure and ensure that they have a fulfilling life they need allocate their resources properly as failure to this leads lack of fulfillment in life (Clayton, 2010 p. 46-51). Thirdly, creation of a culture is also vital in determining the meaning of a fulfilling life (Clayton, 2010). Basing on the Tools of Cooperation model, being a visionary person is not always expected from any individual but rather needs creation and observance (Clayton, 2010 p. 46-51). An individual needs to create a specific culture and follow it to the later to ensure that it is observed fully. The culture needs to be considerate in that it has not to interfere with one’s personal life in relation to their career, relationships and any negative consequences. The model holds that one has the responsibility of changing the present culture if in any case it does not intertwine with the expected results (Clayton, 2010 p. 46-51). Consequently, in the cases where there is no any specific culture one needs to come up with a specific culture that need to address the specific fundamental life goals that ensure a fulfilled life. Apparently, an individual who does not set a specific culture cannot establish the meaning of a fulfilling life. Whether Corporations Can Be Forced for Good or Not Corporations are viewed in two dimensions; some Chief Executive Officers fear using corporations in their firms due to fear of negative output and others use it with an intention of realizing maximum profit in their business (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). From the interview Polman holds that corporations play an important role in ensuring that the company achieves its basic set goals and become visionary in handling its issues. Additionally, he says that a company that embraces corporations has a better chance of realizing maximum profits (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). In essence he from his responses he disputes the fear of using corporations in firms and companies and urges other Chief Executive Officers to use the method in their firms. Consequently, corporations can be forced for good since Unlever as a company headed by Polman is set to get more profits and maximum development come the year 2020(Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). Despite the existing fears about using corporations by most of Chief Executive Officers Polman insists that it is of great importance and need to be embraced by companies. A corporation mostly faces the challenge of supply chain (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). This challenge however is addressed by Polman in which he says that the corporation will involve the entire life cycle- from consumption to disposal. In regard to this, a company that needs to use corporation has to reduce its environmental footprints in order to ensure its sustainability. Basically, Polman proposes that a company might base on agricultural resources to ensure a sustainable supply chain that can serve the whole company and the entire population in the company’s setting (Adi, 2012, p 112-118). Therefore, the company that opt to use corporation shall only realize its goodness only after ensuring sustainable supply from consumption to disposal. Consequently, a company which lacks stable supply chain need not use corporation since it shall not realize the better part of corporation (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). Essentially, corporation might be viewed differently by the shareholders and the investors in the company. In most cases, the shareholders might accuse the company’s Chief Executive Officer of wasting or gambling with their money (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). This is one of the challenges that is associated with corporations in a company and the solution to it is to ensure that the company in question delivers their best (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). Additionally, the company needs to create a n environment that focuses mostly on the long term. The issue of quarterly reports to the shareholders and other stakeholders need to be done away with to ensure that corporation yields its required benefits. According to Polman in the interview, he says that he ensures that Unlever performs even more than it is expected from its shareholders. This helps curb any worries or oppositions from the shareholders because of fear of losing their money. Therefore, this means that for a company to realize the benefit of corporations it needs to ensure maximum delivery and create a business friendly environment that has its focus on the long term investment and benefit. Corporations will ensure that the company gets more investors which shall ensure steady growth and development of the company (Adi, 2012, p. 112-118). Basically, the investors shall help to solve financial crisis in the company and even attract more shareholders. The sheer fact that corporation will give room for more investors does not give any Executive Officer of any company to violate the set strategy and the intended goal of the company will be realized. Consequently, financial supports from both governmental and nongovernmental organizations shall be realized by the company since the corporation gives room for more investors and aids. The underlying fear using corporations in company need to be tarnished since it gives a wrong impression of corporation. Nevertheless, a company needs to set their goals specifically and establish a long-term strategy before deciding whether to use corporation or not. Meaning of Being Ethical in My Chosen Profession Professional ethics bases on the ability to notice and act on organizational threats and opportunities that might either bring harm or profit to the company or organization (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Consequently, failure of leaders to notice ethical transgressions in an organization is considered unethical in any given profession. In regard to this, for one to be considered ethical in any profession they need to be first in noticing and handling ethical and unethical issues a company based on their profession. Significantly, there are various aspects that have to be considered in order to determine the professional ethical conduct of individual. As such, the discussion below seeks to explain professional ethics that I consider in my profession. Identifying the challenge at hand is the first aspect that I consider in order to ensure that I remain ethical in my profession (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Significantly, there are a myriad of obstacles that might hinder proper delivery of services in a company. These obstacles include but not limited to ignorance at the work place, misinterpretation of statements and failure to notice and take action of any unusual factor in an organization (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Handling these aspects professionally ensures that one remains ethical in the service. Therefore, for any given profession one needs to avoid ignorance and handle any issue arising with its required agency. Additionally, one needs to read the statements, directions or instructions carefully before embarking on an issue. Failure to notice and act on any unusually issues is equally unethical factor hence needs to be addressed fully any professional (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Basing on this context the meaning of being ethical to me is ensuring you are responsible and remain accountable at all times. Professional ethics also means that one needs to avoid ambiguity (Bazerman, 2014 p.116-119). Important executive decisions among the options in a company need to clearly state the intended goals and agreed decisions. Consequently, a hinted summary of the company’s decision which has confusion in dates and other financial decisions shall definitely lead to ambiguity. In delivering statements to either the customers or fellow employees need to be clearly stated in order to be understood (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Essentially, this shows for one to ensure that they observe professional ethics, clarity in their communication or even statements need to be considered. Ambiguity in ones statements therefore implies unethical acts in their professions. Additionally, blind motivation is considered unethical as far as professionalism is concerned (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). The employees at any given organization need to be motivated basing on the positive impact they have done to the company. A nonperforming worker needs not to be motivated since this shall have a negative impact on the hardworking workers. From this, the meaning of being ethical in any profession is clearly defined. Looking inward to analyze previous mistake is also fundamental during a crisis in a company (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119). Consequently, the way someone analyzes a situation in an organization especially during a crisis shall determine whether the individual bases on professional ethics or just solving issues for the sake. Basically, lack of critical analysis during a crisis in a company leads failure in achieving the organization’s set goal. Assessing the earlier factors that might be the causes of the present failure in the company is considered the best approach in solving any problem since it bases on professional skills. Tentatively, professional ethical conducts bases on critical analysis of the current situation basing on the possible past factors that might have led to the crisis (Bazerman, 2014 p. 116-119).
