Personal ment This paper aims to disclose my personal ment regarding my educational background, interests, ambitions and more importantly my fundamental purpose to study business in London. I am Cengizhan Ayan from Turkey and I want to extend my father’s business up to the European territories being an entrepreneur. During my high school education in my home town I developed strong interest in business while transforming myself in to an independent individual who always strives for achieving goals. Through significant experiences in life I learned to make continuous efforts even in times of hardships. This further helped me in maintaining motivation towards my career goals while facing all the hindrances. For instance, acquiring standard education is very expensive and requires substantial efforts in order to become successful in academic terms. Hence soon after completing my high school education I moved to Switzerland for further studies. Here, I was actually introduced to different individuals belonging to different religions, nationalities, races and traditions. This subsequently increased my understanding of the international world and how communities differ from one another. My social circle grew considerably in Switzerland and eventually I made some very good friends who have diverse characteristics. These people also motivated me towards the achievement of my personal goal i.e. to become an international businessman. I developed passion towards business by observing my father and how he established one of the leading chocolate brands in Turkey. Currently our brand is associated with number of stores selling our chocolates in the country. I was very confident about the success of our family business until I realized that something is severely lacking and that we can strengthen our brand through implementing the modern business strategies. This increased my interest to acquire business education. Hence I took some fundamental business courses while gaining insight about how the contemporary organizations are operating outside Turkey specifically in Europe. Here, I was exposed to the idea of introducing our chocolate brand in the international consumer market which will not only strengthen our business image rather it will also increase our sales and revenues. Presently I am studying in Europe therefore my primary target is to bring our brand in Switzerland. It is important to note that Switzerland is already renowned for its chocolate brands therefore we will have to face intense market competition particularly in this country. This is also one of the reasons for which I want to study business in London so that I can market our brand successfully in the European Countries. In order to conduct research about the chocolate brands in Switzerland along with their manufacturing facilities and implementation of different business approaches I visited a local chocolate factory in the country. To my surprise the factory had very poor facilities as compared to our factory in Turkey. Moreover, the manufacturing procedures were not up to the mark. On the other hand our chocolate factory produces quality products which also match the standards of international chocolate market. In addition to this I thoroughly studied the market trends in Switzerland about the sale of chocolates which actually convinced me to bring our chocolate brand in the country. However, I don’t want to make such a huge business decision in haste and therefore I want to first complete my business studies. In the contemporary world it is also important to gain experience about the modern business practices prior to implementing them. This can be done through internships offered by major organizations and by doing different business related courses which include various tasks and exercises. As discussed previously that I am passionate about business it is also important to mention that I have worked for Carlsberg to enhance my understanding regarding the professional trade approaches. It was basically a two week internship where I learned the practical aspects of management, marketing and customer dealing. The internship helped me in comprehending the modern business practices while also giving me an insight about how I can bring our brand in to the foreign lands. Over the period of time I realized that profound management is essential to become a successful businessman and therefore I went to King College for a 2 week course in Leadership and Management Skills. Here, I specifically worked on negotiation and the important management exercises. Theories and practical approaches regarding negotiation helped me in learning the underlying principles which make the businesses globally successful. For instance, negotiation plays an important role when it comes to the supplier and manufacturer’s relationship where suppliers want to charge more for their goods and services while on the other side manufacturer wants to pay less in order to increase their profits while decreasing cost. Hence negotiation has to be done in a way which does not negatively impact the profits of supplier without increasing our raw material cost. In addition to this I leaned the management of large scale business operations which often become difficult for growing businesses. I have selected London to pursue professional business education because the city enjoys significant position in the global market while having the major educational institutions. Furthermore, the mixed culture of London and the way it recognizes Turkish people also convinced me to take this decision. Following is a brief description about my purpose to study in London (Why Study in London?): The Global City: Studying in London will actually facilitate me in developing an international network of acquaintances for the lifetime. Joining the alumni’s club of the university after graduation and attending valuable networking events will give me significant business opportunities. Moreover, the city is known for the excitement and entertainment activities with wide variety of food offered at different restaurants. This will facilitate me in maintaining a healthy and friendly lifestyle. University Courses: It is amazing that one city offers almost all the undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs starting from zoology to accountancy and business management. There are approximately 45 universities which offer more than 30,000 courses. All of them are actually designed to meet the modern education requirements. For instance, at the level of undergraduate an individual can select to study a 3 or 4 year degree program with one year of internship or work placement. Postgraduate degrees usually take only one year to be completed. On the other hand the city also offers number of short courses through specialist institutions. The universities are located in different parts of the city, for instance, central London or outer London. This makes the selection of university easier for students as they can choose to study near their residence whereas the public transport system gives an easy access to other parts of the city. Best Universities: Research indicates that four of the universities in London are among the ranking of World’s Top 40 Universities which actually defines the teaching standards in the city and also the recognition of London Universities in the world. Hence continuing my higher education in London will help me in selecting the best university offering business studies. My selection criterion is based upon the research and ideas presented by the teachers and how they strive to inspire students to become the future entrepreneurs, business leaders and specialists internationally. Studying in London will also facilitate me in working with global companies such as GSK and Google. On the basis of World Reputation Ranking 2014 presented by the Times Higher Education I have selected the London Business School to pursue professional education. This institution not only supports enrolled students rather it also extend its services to the alumni. A Welcoming City: London is recognized as a welcoming city especially for students because the city has people belonging to entirely different backgrounds. For instance, more than 300 languages are spoken in London whereas students belong to over 200 different nationalities. Apart from this the city also offers a safe, supportive and friendly environment to study. The access to the support services is actually extended by the universities both off and on the campus with an addition to student clubs and hundreds of different societies. Job Opportunities: Students graduating from universities in London enjoy excellent job opportunities and extensive understanding of business strategies in case if they are aspiring to become entrepreneurs. The university management has actually significant networking with multinational organizations which considerably increases career opportunities for students. Student internships and work placements are an integral part of the degree programs which prepare students to become future leaders during their studies. The part time student jobs will give me an immense opportunity to develop contacts in the corporate world. This will subsequently facilitate me in bringing our chocolate brand in Europe because London has the Head Quarters of European multinationals more than any other city in Europe has. After doing all the research about universities in London, overall environment of the city and the business opportunities that it offers I am convinced to travel to London for my higher education. I have significantly high hopes from the city and I believe that with the passage of time I would be able to introduce our chocolate brand not only in Switzerland but in London also.
