Coming to brass tacks, CNN was the first US Cable Channel which offers 24 hours round the clock news. “It operates one of the top 24-hour news channels, reaching more than 100 million US homes. In addition to its flagship channel, the company offers HLN (formerly CNN Headline News), and it has an international division that keeps viewers informed in about 200 other countries.” (Cable news network Inc: Company description, 2010).

Perhaps one of the most conspicuous aspects of CNN is that it has an excellent contact network and reporters on the spot, which are able to deliver live and authentic information in real-time. Within the US, CNN has often been branded as anti-US, while the news reports outside the US have often been critiqued as being overly patriotic and overbearing. However, the CNN administration is quick to refute such superficial allegations. They argue that CNN reporters arrive at the scene of action before others do, and are thus able to offer authentic and actual deliberations, without having to resort to news histrionics, or window dressing events and occurrences. Perhaps for the reason that CNN laps up and delivers the news to viewers before any other media agency does, it has earned ire and professional envy of competing for news agencies, who may be inventing tales to keep themselves in the media limelight, and also in the news for the wrong reasons.
