This Australian firm utilized innovation to create a new type of paper-based on banana tree trunks. The paper industry has been monopolized by the utilization of wood as the primary source for manufacturing operations of wood paper pulp. This is no longer a reality with new technology created by Papyrus Australia. This report is comprised of secondary research resources inclusive of the company prospectus and as well as information readily available to the public via the internet and databases such as the EBSCOhost database. To analyze the information gathered through these sources to ascertain the strategic position held by PPY, a number of analytical tools were used. These include the SWOT analysis, environmental, analysis and tables, and graphs to accentuate the information held therein.

Papyrus Australia was founded in 1996 as a research-based company in Australia with the vision of formulating an alternate way of creating a paper. The banana tree trunks were the emphasis of the investigation whose founder, Ramy Azer, believed was the most suitable candidate because of its characteristics. Mr. Azer and his research team were able to prove the viability of banana tree trunks as a raw material for creating paper and developed a method to produce paper. In September 2004 the company incorporated in order to facilitate the acquisition of capital from the market in the form of an initial public offering (IPO) (Prospectus, 2005). The Papyrus IPO was a complete success and the company was able to raise the minimal capital needed to start the commercialization stage. On November 24, 2005, the company was awarded a patent for its groundbreaking technology and on May 21, 2006, the company received a $1.2 million grant from the Australian government to help the company in its commercialization efforts of banana ply paper (Mitra, 2007).   ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
