Personal Action Plan Part I: Leadership Capabilities I display a number of strengths in leadership situations. I display excellent communication skills in situations that require leadership. I have the capability to express myself through both verbal and written forms of communication. I am able to provide explanations and instructions in a clear and direct way that is easily comprehensible. I try to eliminate any ambiguity when passing a message by being concise and speaking coherently. I apply good listening skills when listening to other people. This usually involves maintaining eye contact through the conversation, asking for clarifications when necessary and nodding attentively. I also try to understand the other person’s body language which can help in understanding their emotions and feelings about the situation. It involves observing non-verbal cues such as hand gestures, eye movements, and body posture. I manifest a high level of empathy when communicating by attempting to view situations from the perspectives of other people. When communicating, I display a high level of openness that allows other people to provide feedback. I exhibit a high level of confidence in situations that require leadership. I have confidence in my ability to deliver exceptional results from any situation. My confidence complements my decision-making skills especially in situations that need quick and real-time decisions. I have the ability to use the available resources in any task to deliver outstanding outcomes. I show a high level of organization when accomplishing leadership roles. In all situations, I try to plan and to apply a high level of order during all tasks. When planning, I set ambitious yet achievable goals that help to create an optimal level of operation and diligence. As a leader, I display flexibility in all situations. Being flexible helps to change strategies and plans whenever unexpected problems or challenges crop up. Flexibility helps me to adapt to uncomfortable environments or situation. Being flexible is useful when using feedback and new information to improve or change processes or policies. I apply a high level of fairness and equality when handling the people I lead. I make sure that all people are treated with respect despite their roles or position. Finally, I have the ability to encourage and motivate other people to work towards a common goal. My weakness during situations of leadership is that I have poor negotiation skills. During negotiations, I usually fail to recognize some factors that have a huge bearing on the process and the final outcomes. I have problems handling presentations. I face challenges in situations where I need to persuade people to commit to particular tasks. Another weakness is manifested in situations where I have to resolve conflicts. In such situations, I usually fail to employ the level of neutrality and objectivity as required of any arbitrator. I also have problems when delegating tasks. I need to be aware of all the facts and information on both sides of the conflict before providing solutions. I ought to improve my presentation skills. I need to be more charismatic in situations that require me to motivate or persuade other people. I intend to develop my leadership skills by putting myself in situations that require particular skills and using my positive attributes to develop the weaker capabilities. Part 2: Leadership Development Worksheet Leadership Capabilities Excellent oral and written communication skills, good listening skills, empathy, confidence, self-assuredness, flexibility, fairness, encouraging and motivating Leadership Weaknesses Low charisma, poor negotiation skills, inadequate presentation skills, poor persuasion skills, lack of objectivity during conflict resolution, poor delegation skills Specific Goals I aim at improving my level of charisma to exceptional levels. I need to have a high level of charisma to help when setting goals and inspiring other people to accomplish processes and tasks to achieve the goals. I aim at having the ability to attain and maintain attention through humour, anecdotes, and storytelling. I need to have the ability to manifest calmness and confidence in critical situations and crises. I aim at having the initiative and creativity to begin new projects and to take reasonable risks. I intend to be more expressive when encouraging other people rallying other people to follow a given direction. I need to develop my interpersonal skills in order to have higher charisma and cohesion when leading other people. I aim at developing my presentation skills to a level where I can handle long and involving presentations with confidence. I need to develop my negotiation skills. I aim at being more thorough and attentive to all information and factors during negotiation processes. I aim at gaining kills that will help me to have more assurance in situations where delegation of tasks is required. My final goal is to gain objectivity when acting as an arbitrator in conflict resolution. Action Plan I will follow a clear vision towards achieving the specific goals. I will ask more accomplished leaders to mentor me in my quest to achieve the desired leadership qualities. During the mentoring process, I will directly from them and through observation. In achieving more charisma, I will be more passionate about my goals and the processes for achieving the goals. I will display more enthusiasm and confidence when persuading other people to follow my lead. I will develop charisma by appealing to my follower’s emotions, logic and ethics when engaging in persuasion. I will utilize my leadership capabilities such as my excellent communication skills and confidence to develop my presentation and negotiation capabilities. I will try to set definitive goals and targets when undertaking my duties. To develop my delegation capabilities, I will try to understand the talents and capabilities of all the people I lead. When resolving conflicts, I will try to take the perspectives of both sides of the conflict before making a resolution. I will also try to remove and bias or assumptions from the process. I will maintain a positive attitude all through the process and try to learn as much as I can. I will also be willing to lean from my weaknesses and mistakes as a way to strengthen my leadership qualities. Read More
