The five step problem solving model is an approach of problem identification and elimination of its root course; in what case the problem is considered a deviation from the norm or standard. The five steps involved include the identification of problem, identification of plan, identification of what might happen, strategy formulation, and measure. I intend to employ this strategy to solve my problem of improving my academic grade.
My problem concerns poor academic performance. This is largely associated with my performance last term, which was below average. I performed dismally in almost all subjects, which was all to my disappointment. This term, I am determined to find an effective solution to this problem.
My overall initial plan is to investigate the major root course of the problem. I will focus on comparing my performance to that of the overall best student. I will review my studying plan and culture to determine the possible deficiencies that may be present. I will also consult with my teachers for each and every subject to get an opinion from them on my performance and what may have been the possible causes.
Thirdly, I will analyze my options. Among the possible solutions would be borrowing some reading strategies from those of the best student, setting out a new time table, improving the time spent for personal or private studies especially in the library, and focusing more on consulting with my teachers on those particular academic areas that I do not understand well.
My main focus would be to implement these strategies to my level best. Committing to them will at least provide some impacts to my academic performance, which will largely determine the last stage of the problem solving. The last phase would be to measure the impact of the strategy. This will entail the comparison of my academic achievements of this term with those of the previous term. Any significant improvement will mean a successful implementation of the problem. If there is no improvement, I will repeat the whole process of problem solving again.
