The case study emphasizes on cross-cultural diversity and this portrays the importance of human resources in organizational system. I have studied that there are four types of strategy adopted by multinational enterprises. These strategies can be classified as international, multi-domestic strategy, transnational and global strategy. All these strategies as I have observed is dependent on two factors like local responsiveness considerations and cost reduction consideration. This theoretical base enabled me to identify strategies being structured by Molex.
As per my knowledge transnational strategy is usually adopted by firms when there is need for high local responsiveness and high cost reduction. The case study on Molex helped to correlate such theoretical frameworks with real world scenario (Boud, Keogh and Walker, 1985). On the other hand, leading and managing people are a common concept in strategic human resource management. I have studied that cross-cultural diversity is noticeable in majority multinational enterprises. However this study helped me to analyze the importance of cross-cultural diversity for acquiring competitive advantage.
Cross-cultural diversity as I know creates a lot of organizational conflict. This case study clearly reveals importance of cross-cultural diversity in an organizational system. Employees from different nationalities possess different set of expertise and this in turn is beneficial for a firm while operating in various locations (De Vita, 2004). The concept of expatriate was not clear to me earlier but through this case study I could relate its importance with McKinsey’s 7S framework. Strategy and staff are strongly linked with one another.
