Such events are the Annual balloon festival, annual 10 kilometers marathon, golf tournament, monthly farmer’s market, annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and Memorial Day coed softball tournament. Recreational centers have also been created and families are encouraged to take their children out just to have some fun moments. The prison that has been established in the city stands out as one of the finest correction facilities in the country. Kelsey City was established by M. Kelsey with the vision of “preserving the natural resources of the land and maintaining a close-knit community”. Given this mission, the members of this community have over the years endeavored to live up to the premise of social responsibility and ethical values as discussed below.

A majority of the citizens who reside in this city have maintained a closely-knit social fabric. The attitude of social responsibility has been instilled among the members and is often passed over from generation to generation. Community programs and sporting events have been created deliberately to create avenues through which the citizens can mingle and just get to know each other in detail. Other places where members interact include shopping centers and institutions of learning. As already explained above, the city has one of the best correctional facilities in the country. The leadership understands the role played by prisons in rehabilitating juvenile youths and other criminals within the community. As such, a significant portion of the members visits prisoners in this prison to interact with them and encourage them that all is not lost in life. This helps the prisoners understand that they are not rejects and that they are still welcome in their communities once they serve their terms in prison.

Individuals in this community have the social responsibility of ensuring peaceful co-existence among members just as envisioned by the founder M. Kelsey. As the adage states “each market has its madman”, it would be nonsensical to imagine that all members who reside in this community have good intentions. The community is bound to have criminals who are out to disturb the peaceful co-existence among the members. As a socially responsible member of the community, it is one’s duty to report such individuals to the relevant authorities for the corrective actions to be taken against them. Any attempt to collude with them or hide them from the watchful eyes of the authorities is undoubtedly irresponsible, especially for the well-being of society.

Social responsibility refers to ethical values that are considered an obligation to an organization or an entity to promote or benefit society at large. It includes any individual whose action affects the environment. It can be used to make a balance between the business environment and the economy. It involves avoiding doing actions that may cause harmful effects on society or doing positive activities that will ensure the advancement of the community or society (Bertagni, 2010). Individual responsibility duels solely on the person`s ethical values. Individual social responsibility efforts are considered unrealizable in the present modern world. This is because many people are driven by the determination of achieving personal goals or interests due to the competitive world. However, if an individual decides to work for the benefit of a large number of people then they will succeed to achieve social responsibilities (Crowther, 2012). Read More
