Explain how you responded to a significant challenge that you have encountered and what you learned in the process. (maximum 200 words) A significantchallenge that I had encountered was the need to retain my full-time status as a student and maintain exemplary academic performance to be considered for John Abbotts Student Involvement Recognition (SIR) program. The primary challenge was in time management. I endeavored to improve my capabilities through the SIR program by being immersed to diverse managing situations within a maximized time frame.

Concurrently, I joined many in-college clubs such as the Green Giants, and the Pennies for Poultry. I was actively present in most of their weekly meetings and participated in brainstorming activities. I was especially enthusiastic about joining varied extra-curricular events which took place within my institution. These activities included becoming a career fair host and volunteering in fundraising. The fundraising activity was most memorable since the end result was the generation of hundreds of dollars for programs and projects to be earmarked in Africa.

Through many of our innovative initiatives, program participants helped in making John Abbott more sustainable and be recognized as a social responsible organization. I learned to be academically, socially and environmentally responsible; I developed effective techniques for time management; and gained advanced knowledge in applying business theories into effective practice.Tell us more about one of the activities you listed above, explaining what your goals were, what you did to pursue them, the results achieved, and what you learned in the process.

(maximum 200 words) This semester I wanted to be more focused on academic performance and in activities that are considered productive and beneficial to a greater number of people. I aimed to maximize my potentials for learning; while still be able to help others within my spare time. Hence, I became a Volunteer Coordinator for Charity Haunt Productions. My objective was to give back to the community by helping them make their event a success through professional inputs and assisting in coordinating with different agencies.

I likewise provided much needed assistance in terms of the development of correspondences for program communication, promoting teamwork, applying leadership and management skills in areas most needed. I managed to achieve my goals by being more open-minded to constructive criticism by the teenagers and managers alike; by adapting to required changes; and through great time management (despite taking a full course load). The end result was that I became a better communicator, a more effective team player, and a responsible and mature leader.

Throughout the process, I have learned that managing kids and teenagers is not the same as dealing with adults. I had to use a more appropriate approach to cater to their distinct and specialized needs.
