Rather than being satisfied with performing a given task adequately or satisfying a particular need within a client base, the authors argue that continued learning is an integral part of keeping a business model developing and alive as a function of further development and growth.

The authors stipulate that although organizational learning can become part of a company’s culture, it must first necessarily be implemented within the policy so as to create the chance for a culture of organizational learning to be established. Furthermore, the authors indicate that those organizations that can develop a sense of learning within their respective units are the most likely to maintain a degree of success over the long term.The article itself was salient to the subject matter it discussed.

However, the authors did not spend a great deal of time discussing how organizational policies that can affect the cultural exchange mechanisms can and should be instituted in order to achieve the highest levels of results. The authors note that due to the fact that the marketplace is changing at such a rapid rate, it is necessary for organizations to react to this by seeking to differentiate the means by which they encourage innovation within their respective units. The authors do not commit to laying out a framework by which innovation itself can be encouraged; rather, they seek to lay out a series of conditions that firms should first consider with reference to how they intend on growing, expanding, and differentiating themselves.

The article’s main drawback is concentric upon the fact that it does not lay out a specific framework for how innovation can be ultimately encouraged. Although it is clear why this has not been done from the analysis they performed as well as the explanations they gave, the reader is left to wonder if it would not be slightly more simple to merely lay out a basic framework for ways in which organizations can seek to improve innovation rather than waxing eloquent about the direction that the firm itself envisions taking.

Conclusion:Although both of these articles deal with slightly different topics, they are both integral towards understanding the way in which an organization must continually work to evolve if it is to meet the challenges of the marketplace as well as the existential threat of stasis. In this way, both articles lay out clear steps that should be acted upon in order to prevent such an eventuality from occurring. This author has subsequently ranked these articles with Smith 2012 being the most important article and Courvisanos et al being of secondary importance.

The reason for this is due to the inherent understanding that the ability to grow and educate the organization stands a primary goal towards any design or implementation that the firm wishes to take in the future; inclusive of increasing innovation.
