on Business Law on Business Law In an article en d “Google Suit Gets Action Status” written by Jeffrey A. Trachtenberg and published online in The Wall Street Journal on May 31, 2012, the author proffered pertinent issues relative to a New York federal judge’s decision to grant “class-action certification to a seven-year-old lawsuit brought against Google Inc. for its efforts to electronically scan millions of books in public and university libraries and make them available online” (Trachtenberg, 2012, par. 1). As disclosed, the ruling was espoused to mean that individual authors of the books that Google apparently scanned need not sue the organization individually for cases of copyright infringement.

The lawsuit included aspects of violations of the scanning since it was disclosed that no proper authorizations were sought from respective book authors of a considerable number of books which were reported to be made available online. It was likewise noted that Google used the ‘fair-use’ defense which “maintained all along that scanning entire books is protected by the fair-use doctrine as long as Google only displays small snippets of those books" (Trachtenberg, 2012, par. 8).The name of the magazine: The Wall Street JournalAuthor: Jeffrey A.
