Extract of sample "Management Decision - Strategic Downsizing"

Keeping in line with the discussion here, the growth strategy that would work to good effect here would be downsizing. It will handle all the situations related to the employees and bring to a single level the cost issue where it starts getting out of hand. Another growth strategy would be to cut down on extra costs which would mean more incentives for the organization in the long run. This would mean that the organization grows as a whole and keeps its costs under a certain level. The third growth strategy which could be used here comprises the diversification within small business domains but not expanding the business. This shall bring forth more profits for the company than it is getting at present.

The possible causes of Wilson’s company’s decline include the fact that there are significant issues that need to be resolved at the earliest. The employees are being delegated tasks well and hence not being given their share within the organizational settings. This has made things difficult for the employees who have lost out on gaining a fair enough understanding of Tuscan Treasures. Perhaps the organization is not bringing in much success because of its lack of organizational intent. It has forgotten the premise of doing its best to achieve success within the already available resources and the employees that work under its aegis. Wilson should try and establish himself so that his organization could benefit immensely well within the long-range scheme of things.

Some recommendations for handling downsizing include the fact that Wilson should find out which employees are the ones that are redundant within the organizational environment and which ones amongst these can be substituted for someone else doing their share of the work. Then again, it is a difficult thing to lay off employees without providing them solid reasons because they are doing important work for the organization and hence the reason that they are able part of Tuscan Treasures itself (Band, 1995). Simply letting them off would not solve the problem which has come about within the organization and that is being envisaged as being solved by downsizing.

Indeed it would be ironic if Tuscan Treasures is unable to overcome the weight of expectations that Terry Wilson has of his organization. Now is the time to maneuver his basis and provide the much-needed remedy which seems missing within the related settings. Downsizing might just be the short-term fix but it would not solve the issue once and for all. Perhaps the need of the time is to find out where the major problems are and how these elements need to be fixed within the available resources.
