Case 4: Starting an On-line Business Case 4: Starting an On-line Business If you were to start an online business, what kind of products would you be interested in selling? What would you anticipate to be your biggest problem? If I were to start an online business, the products which I will be interested in selling are apparel, accessories and footwear because these are among the top saleable products online and they do not require a huge capital investment. I also think that these products have a very big market.

The biggest problem which I anticipate with an on-line business is security. Currently, cybercrime is on the rise so it is important that I install anti-virus and anti-spyware software to prevent such a problem. It is important that I secure my website. Other problems which I might encounter are designing the website to make it attractive and credible to online buyers. Collection of payments might be another hurdle which I should address.2. What do you see as the advantages of starting an online store versus a bricks and mortar store?

The major advantage of starting an online store versus a bricks and mortar store is that one will have less overhead in an online store. Furthermore, one will be able to reach a wider market online than in a bricks and mortar store. It is also more convenient for customers nowadays to transact through the net. 3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of starting an online business while you are still in school? One of the main advantages of starting an online business while still in school is that one can easily market the website through schoolmates and other university personnel.

In school, one is more exposed on the latest trends in the market, internet and the latest software available. Of course, another positive aspect of doing online business is the student earns extra income and does not have to rely on his parents for allowance. One can also attend to the business after school and during summer breaks. The major drawback in starting an online business while still in school is that one might have to miss class hours especially if there are numerous orders from customers which one has to take care of.
