The purpose of the article was to bring out the real message behind social responsibility, and the manner in which its components can be executed to fulfill the shareholders’ desires (Carroll 39). Carroll B. Archie, the author of the article, intended to break down the components that surround CSR in order to assist executives achieve organizational goals through fulfillment of shareholders’ desires. Governmental bodies were created to indicate/determine the groups of people that rely on CSR regularly, and what organizations need to do to meet their demands.

The ever-growing numbers of stakeholders, who demand ethical and legal rights, require organizations to fulfill their end of the bargain by partaking in moral operations (Carroll 39). In light of the above, executives are forced to look at the moral deals that surround their organization that indicate how well to deal with stakeholders. The ethical responsibilities are those actions prohibited and/or expected by society. They are not necessarily codified by the law, but are what stakeholders consider to be fair or just in the community (Carroll 40).

Ethical responsibilities precede the establishment of law. This is as they become the driving force behind the formulation and implementation of rules and regulations (Carroll 41). Philanthropic responsibilities are those that revolve around societal expectations, which demand that businesses take a part in societal growth and development.
