Our aim would be to study the solutions carefully regarding how the natural hazards can be tackled with the implementation of the knowledge of Landscape Architecture. The Problem While finding the cause of an issue, we need to find out first, what is the source of that issue. Here the problem faced by the citizens of China is property loss due to the environmental catastrophe. The statistics of Average Disaster per year is shown in the given chart Source: (preventionweb.net) If we study the data then we get the knowledge that the most crucial losses take place due to Storm, Flood and Earthquake, also evidence of snow disasters in the southern part of China results in collapsing buildings, blocked highways and blackouts.

Almost every economic sector faces losses when exposed to such natural calamities. The most damages faced by frost and high temperature cause the agriculture business to suffer. In 1991, the frost in China killed half of the cotton seeds. The rice and maize production also suffered due to high temperatures on the banks of Yangtse River. The tropical cyclones are however responsible for damaging the fisheries business in China. The devastating earthquake on 12th may 2008 caused immense loss of properties and lives.

The Chinese Government declared 12th May as the Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day. It was reported that throughout the period of 1990 to 2008, the natural calamities impacted the lives of around 300 million human beings and collapsed over 3 million buildings. This data indicates that the Real Estate sector is also a huge sufferer due to these hazards that occurs in the environment. When the basic needs like food and house gets destructed by the natural catastrophe then it’s very natural that the other sectors of the economy which are secondary for survival would go through huge losses as the demand for the primary needs would rise suddenly.

Therefore it can be concluded that the natural hazards cause the whole economy to suffer at large & not only a particular sector or organization. (Siva Kumar & Et. al142-154) How to proceed towards the solution When a country faces some natural calamity, the first thing that gets blocked is the roads following the telecommunication networks. Road blockage can be dealt with, by the usage of stronger materials like steel, Iron and aluminum in the making of the roads. Also there should alternate roads & flyovers to reach the prominent areas of the country.

There should be provision for the landing of helicopters during the relief operations. In case of telecommunication, the same measures can be taken. The towers should be placed at regions which are not hazard prone and the materials used for the making of those towers should be strong enough to bear any kind of calamity. Satellite communications can be opted for handling such situations. The China Telecom has taken major steps towards the maintenance of the environmental stability. There should be a long network of NGOs, Military and local communities around the hazard prone region.

They are required to be properly equipped during the disaster management programs. The present generation of engineering has come up with modern infrastructure models which are resilient to hazards. The concept of resilience discloses three interlinked aspects which are Reduced possibility
