If one is a union member; he or she earns a fair day’s pay for a whole day work, health defense and safety on the job, training and education on work, and also welfare for a person’s family. If one is not at job then also several advantages are given to union members. Roofers’ membership gives the chance for Union Plus advantages that can give a person and his family the benefits of more purchasing power parity in the market. Additionally, a low-interest Master card will be given to that person and discount on legal services will be provided.

Union does bargain for the rights of its members and this bargain help union members to earn well (United Union of Roofers, Water proofers and Allied Workers 2012). The International Slate and Tile Roofers Union of America came into existence on June 5, 1903. Then the International Brotherhood of Composition Roofers, Damp and Waterproof Workers were granted the charter by AFL on November 6th, 1906. Both of these two unions of Roofers worked separately but with collaboration for a period of thirteen years.

They finally merged into one to make United Slate, Tile and Composition Roofers, Damp and Waterproof Workers Association in 1919. This amalgamated union begin from having 1, 600 members to approximately 7, 000 by the end of World War II (United Union of Roofers, Water proofers and Allied Workers 2012). According to Washington Post, Union workers will be conducting a big drive on August 11, 2012, highlighting rights of union members and asking for Economic Bill of Rights and committing to hold the political candidates and their two big political parties answerable to whether they are in favor or not of this act.

These were the announcements made on July 12, 2012 by two union workers President Richard Trumka of AFL-CIO. The main sources of job opening in this occupation are those workers who leave their jobs early. Roofers are hired at the education less than high school and are paid with $16.45 per hour. Their training is basically on-job.

The number of roofing jobs available as per 2010 survey was 136,700 with a job outlook of 18%. This is the fastest job outlook ever experienced by roof workers. The expected employment opportunity that would be available by 2010 is 24,400. United Union of Roofers, Water proofers and Allied Workers is the Union for the organization Roofers. It does give its members certain benefits well above all the workers of the organization. Unionization is a challenge for this organization as well. It is a serious issue which the organization encounters.

It is the first step in enhancing the membership, bargaining strength and also political influence. And firstly, unionization is the right thing to do. It is a war for dignity and justice on the job-for fair wages, health care, safety, and to secure pensions in the long run. Like previous endeavors of Union, this will create a huge disaster in the economy. This bill will not only focus on Union members but will give rights to non-unions as well. Their issue is pressing and to mitigate the fight with the government and officials, they have to be a little lenient on their demands.
