The implication of this is that consumers become more discerning and more demanding as well in the future. They would expect smarter and better looking phones at the same time, they would not only want a copy of the number that Jennifer Aniston wore in a picture they found on Yahoo! Rather, they could find better ways or places to get them from in cheaper prices. The period today and in the future would not be called the Information Age for nothing. Retail will have to adapt to this phenomenon with both of the negative and the positive sides all thrown in the package. This also means that spins or false advertising will be a thing of the past.

The Growth of the Service Industry

The expansion of the service sector has unquestionably generated economic prosperity, but it has eminently contributed to social injustice and inequality. Consequently, I believe that while the growth of the service industry has great economic intuition, it is eventually socially detrimental and distancing society from achieving paradigms of social equilibrium.
Service, by definition, is the exchange of a commodity that has no tangible form; whereas industry is described as the people or organizations engaged in a particular type of enterprise. The service industry is then simply defined as an aggregation of commercial entities that provide services rather than physical objects. The non-material nature of services can be dist...

In a research that was conducted by the London School of Economics in 2005 – 2006, it has been seen that almost 61.6% of the students worked after graduation (LSE, 2008). According to Little (2007), the link between high education and employment is very high.

“Employability is a set of achievements – skills, understandings, and personal attributes – that make graduates more likely to gain employment and be successful in their chosen occupations, which benefits themselves, the workforce, the community, and the economy” (Little, 2007)

The research highlighted the strong points that are developed by students and the percentage of skills that are developed post-high education program...

How Tomatoes Can Help Your Heart

Whether tomato is a fruit or vegetable? Well, this question can be answered in both ways. Botanically, tomato is a fruit but it is so frequently used as a culinary item all over the world, it is also considered as a vegetable. Long time back, the tomato was considered as fruit and helped the exporters to avoid taxation but 1893 the Supreme Court put an over this dispute by declaring that tomato was a vegetable and since that time onwards, tomatoes were taxed accordingly. Keeping in harmony with this tradition, till date tomatoes are served as entrée and very rarely as dessert. Apart from side dishes, wide array of main course dishes are also prepared from tomatoes and these dishes are regarded considered as lip-smacking cui...

The Effects of Financial Crisis on Supplier Selection Criteria of the Oil and Gas Industry Equipment Market

It is a difficult task to find those vendors who not only have the adequate quality and quantity of the needed raw materials but who also have an attitude of efficiency and display commitment to customer service (Sonmat, 2006). Further, organizations also strive to locate and select vendors who can be depended upon for long term relationship.

The number of factors or attributes desired from the vendor is vast, and different organizations and different industries place different importance on the attributes (Sonmat, 2006). Some of the vendor attributes may gain importance owing to the nature of the industry, for example, in the case of consumer perishables suppliers, like fresh vegetables or fruits, the buying firm would...

In What Ways Did 20th Century Conflicts Change the Nature of Western Introspection

The 20th century period was marked by several conflicts: World War I, the Holocaust, World War II, the exploitation of Latin American countries, Racial Segregation and the Negro Revolution which spawned the Civil Rights Movement in America and the Feminist Movement.

The Holocaust is admittedly one of the most horrific events in the history of mankind and the impact of the horrors it brought changed the way Ellie Wiesel sees his faith. While Jews are known for their orthodox and unquestioning faith in God, Wiesel’s experiences in the concentration camps of Auschwitz compelled her to question God’s existence. In Night, Wiesel tells of the unspeakable hanging of a young boy who was left dangling for thirty min...

Organizational Change is an Opportunity for Organizational Learning

Before we move on to how it is beneficial for everyone, even though it is perceived negatively by a large number of people and is one of their biggest fears, we need to discuss the different kinds of changes and the reason behind them.

An organization can go through a structural change. This can be due to a takeover or a complete change of management. In this type of change, the way of working and many dimensions of business activity is altered. This move is usually towards modernization and staying up with the pace but is too fast and sudden, and thus hard for the stakeholders to adjust with. Then there is a change brought about by the change in the services or goods produced and provided. This is usually a positive ch...

Structure of the Educational System in Morocco and Its Capacity for Addressing the Needs of the Hospitality Industry

... jobs are expected to be created and tourism is expected to present 20 % of the national GDP. The hosting capacity for tourism is expected to increase to 230,000 beds from 97,000 beds in the year 2001. 6 Developing the tourism sector in Morocco presents a challenge because the country lags behind its peers on many social indicators (Alkhatib, 2008, Pp. 2 - 3). Thus, educating the masses to support the 2010 Vision to support tourism and to take on the new jobs is a challenge and it is important to try to better understand the expectations of hospitality and tourism industry managers, increase capacity for training and education for jobs in tourism and understand if the structure of the education system in Morocco can support the needs...

Analysis of Articles about Climate Change

Can we imagine an Earth where there are no green mountains, no deep blue seas, and no living creatures? No. But a disaster of such magnitude and dimension is looming over Earth. Humans have identified this threat, defined it and given it a name, global warming.

It was in the 1990s that the world began to hear serious warnings on global warming and climate change. The summary for policymakers prepared as part of the first assessment report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change was the first-ever in-depth study on this topic (Houghton, Jenkins and Ephirams, 1990). This report explored climate change and stumbled upon revolutionary revelations. This study announced in very clear terms that there is a natur...

Management Theory and Practice in the Early Childhood Education Industry

...Management Theory and Practice in the early childhood education industry This Report applies management theory into practice in the early childhood industry, especially in the context of women leaders. Management issues play a significant role in the academic sector, because early childhood professionals need higher levels of motivation in order to avoid burnout . As pointed out in a study by Osgood and Halsall (2007) where they carried out research to examine the position of women in leadership or management positions, a “glass ceiling” exists for women in the academic setting, which could significantly impair motivation. Since many of the individuals employed in the early education sector are women, addressing this issue is even more...

The Key Macro Factors that Have Influenced the UK Grocery Retailing Industry since the Early 1960s

...1. Assess the key macro factors that have influenced the UK grocery retailing industry since the early 1960s. The concept of organisational change is inherently intertwined with external threats and opportunities, which businesses must adapt to as part of strategic planning to continue long term growth. Senior and Fleming argue that the concept of organisational change has many faces, namely “convergent changes and transformational change that is organisation wide and characterised by radical shifts in strategy, mission values and associated changes of structures and systems” (In Thompson & Martin, 2005, p.41). Moreover, Johnson et al highlight that external macro-economic factors intrinsically impact strategy management and without...
