?Personal ment Business organizations have evolved through time from assuming simple structures and markets to expanding into global perspectives. The vast growth and fast pace of technological developments, concurrent with significant transformations in the external environment provided the impetus for enterprises to seek competent and qualified people who are equipped with the knowledge, abilities and skills to address the changing demands of the times. Contemporary universities have offered programs in diverse and multidimensional formats that ensure the holistic development of the students. In this regard, I am most enthusiastic and determined to pursue a Doctorate of Business Administration from Abu Dhabi University, one of the most prestigious universities in the country, deemed to fulfill both personal and professional goals. As I was remunerating on the career paths available for business doctorates, I was initially ambivalent from the following options: a profession that is purely in academics; an endeavor delving into a potentially rewarding career with a global organization; or eyeing a combination of a career that balances requirements between academics and consulting for businesses. After careful soul searching and weighing opportunities in conjunction with personal interests, I have decided on a career that further develops my business acumen in the field I am currently in. I am currently the Group CEO of a prominent Real Estate company called "Dubai Properties Group" since 200; and previous to that I worked as the CEO for Tatweer (another Real Estate company in Dubai) from 2006 to 2009. Working in this capacity made me recognize the need to hone my interpersonal, informational and decisional skills. As CEO, I have intermittently assumed the roles of the taskmaster, mediator, motivator and organizational designer. To expand my perspectives on presiding over the total enterprise, I have recognized the need to pursue higher education focusing on marketing and management to address the needs of the company, in response to competitive pressures and of changes in diverse factors of the external environment. In this regard, I would particularly be interested into conducting a research on the future directions open to real estate companies given the recent slum the resulted from the financial crisis that was globally entrenched. A potential research study on the problems that continue to besiege real estate companies in our country with the aim of providing strategies to address weaknesses and threats would assist in the improvement of the real estate industry, in general. Pursuant to Abu Dhabi University’s mission of producing “global leaders who understand the challenges of our time and make positive contributions to national and global prosperity… not limited to educating students but also to transforming the UAE into a vibrant, prosperous and strong nation” (Abu Dhabi University: Chancellor Welcome, par. 1), I plan to be an active contributor to the transformation of the real estate industry into a more dynamic and productive sector. My role as a CEO required me to be heavily involved, since 2009, in restructuring the organization, development of a prudent governance framework, corporate governance, development of a strategic 5 year business plan with explicitly defined organizational mission, objectives and values. Through pursuing the doctorate degree in business administration, I would be accorded the perfect opportunity to develop policy making skills and strategic development of plans and prospects that would be deemed significant and crucial in responding to the needs of more sophisticated clientele. As I reviewed the program profile, I was immediately attracted to its goal of supporting “the ability of candidates to develop their knowledge and provide them with a sound understanding of theories in addition to applying them, while helping centers of higher education, consultants and academics specialized in business administration” (Abu Dhabi University: News Archive, par. 9). The need to link theories to contemporary practice is most eminent and a prime factor for business practitioners, like me, to be apprised of contemporary business concepts and models that are considered effective in global organizations. As my academic background has been fully oriented to business, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration major in MIS and Operation and Production Management from the University of Arizona USA (1985 - 1989) and an Executive MBA from Zayed University Dubai UAE major in Managing E commerce (2001 – 2002), I believe that there is sufficient compliance to the required academic pursuit to justify applying for a doctorate degree. My innate and genuine desire in this field of endeavor has been manifested and exemplified through the vast accomplishments and fast promotions along the organizational hierarchy. Concurrently, my more than 19 years of managerial and supervisory work experience have appropriately prepared me to gauge my personal qualifications and competencies as a leader and a senior management officer. The complexity of one’s job and the desirability of raising intuitive and systematic competence to the skillful development of corporate strategies provided the impetus for pursing this degree. I recognize that the CEO’s special role in contributing quality to purpose through standards exercised in the choice of what to do and the way in which it is to be done through apt discernment and expertise in the field required not only stock knowledge but the ability to gain more and to share more. At this point, I am reflecting on what more can I do for the organization with my capacity as the CEO. Equipped with a strong academic background and a wealth of work experience are still deemed insufficient given the increasingly challenging demands of the continuously evolving environment. I want to be instrumental in the searching for innovative means to improve contemporary global organizations through more dynamic applications of management and marketing theories that incorporate cultural diversity, social responsibility and adherence to ethical and environmental standards. Organizations have been persistent and determined to satisfy various customers’ needs through the development of business models and strategies that maximize resources and minimize costs. There have been unwavering quests for leadership theories that would ensure effective implementation of programs that motivate personnel, yet address other stakeholders’ interests and goals. The unique position and role that CEOs assume in organizations make them at a vantage point and therefore should be used as opportunities to create innovative strategies that would eliminate prejudice, conflict, inefficiency, unproductiveness, low morale, social irresponsibility and activities that destroy the environment. There are challenges that could be vanquished through the approval one’s application for a Doctorate of Business Administration degree at Abu Dhabi University.
