Hydroponics Lab Report s Hydroponics Lab Report Question: The main purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of calcium on Spinach Tyee.Background Information:Spinach Tyee is a type of spinach that is juicy, thick, and very tasty as many describes it. However, this type of spinach is affected by calcium depending on the amount of calcium present in soil. As in this experiment, various amounts of calcium has been used to determine how it affects the growth of Spinach Tyee. This has been done by checking the number of leaves, stems, leaf size, color of leaves and stem, completeness of leaves and stem as seen, stem diameter, percentage of leaf discolored, amount of roots, plant height, and pH of the solution.

Hypothesis: Calcium will affect the growth of Spinach Tyee. Materials: CaCl2 solution, non-circulating hydroponic set-up, water, Spinach Tyee seedlings, and pH monitor.Data: The data collected was recorded in the table below as per the groups. In group 1, no calcium used, in group 2, 5 ppm was used and in group 3, 10 ppm was used. However, the experiment was done accurately as the results were astonishingly bad. This may be due to inaccuracy in the measurement of calcium or other factors. The control of the amount water, sunlight, temperature, the pH value of the hydroponics was also significant as it also contributed to the resulted found. The numbers were arrived at by observing, measuring and recording the values in the above table.Conclusion: We did this experiment to determine the effect of calcium on Spinach Tyee.

It was done over a period of six weeks. Throughout this time, we were capable of observing changes in the plants as from group to three, for instance, the color of leaves were different as from group one to three. All the three groups experienced different colors of the leaves, the amount of roots, and leaf sizes, etc. this indicated that calcium has an effect on the growth of Spinach Tyee.Sources of Error: I think the first thing that went wrong is that is somehow when measuring the amount of calcium.

This might have affected the color, stem diameter, the percentage of leaf discolored among others. It was also challenging to measure the pH of the solution because some people are color blind.Observation Notes: The color of leaf was different for all the groups.
