Weedy Sea dragons had relatively small heads, prehensile tails, solid necks and pipe-like snouts. Its rounded body has no scales and is covered with rigid bony plates.
Flatfishes, for instance, California halibut, had a small head, a large twisted mouth, and sharp conical teeth. The leafy dragon had no scales but a covering of rigid bony plates. Each plate had a long, strong spine for defensive purposes.

There are brightly coloured fish, including Catalina goby and the Garibaldi, found in southern California waters. Catalina goby has complimenting colours of reddish-orange and blue strips body. Garibaldi has a neon orange body about a foot long (Chris 1).

Usually, the uppermost part of the shark jaw does not have an attachment to the skull as it appears in bony fish. In addition, certain bony fish have a secondary set of jaws that remains seemingly absent in Sharks. Moreover, sharks lack pleural ribs, while bony fish have ribs. Furthermore, a bony fish skull contains up to 63 bones, while a Shark skull only has ten cartilaginous elements.
