Two repeats, were set up for each mutant. Control Vials containing two wild type female flies with four wild type male flies were set up as control. All the vials are stored under normal room temperature, under light and provided with the same amount of food. The offspring’s in each of the test vials is observed and the different characters are recorded. In Trial 1 Test Vial 1, we obtain 4 wild types and 1 mutant strain. In vial 2, we get 6 wild types and 1 LOBE fly while in Test vial 3 we obtain 2 ANTENNAPEDIA mutant flies.

In Trial 1, the Control Vial 1 showed only wild flies, Control vial 2 and 3 showed no wild strains and all the off springs were mutant while Control vial 4 showed all mutant and 1 wild type. The results were comparable in Trial 2 as well where in Vial 1, we obtained 12 wild strains. In Test Vial 2, 11 wild flies while in test Vial 3, 2 ANTENNAPEDIA off-springs were observed. In the Control Vial1s in Trial 2 we obtained a both mutant and wild strains in each of the vials. The hypothesis we tested in this experiment was that the female fly, when given mating choice between the wild strain and mutant strain for eye morphology selected the wild type over the mutant strain.

This was established with the help of chi square analysis under a level of confidence of 0.05.The results along with the chi square and p values confirm that in contrast to preference for eye color mutation the wild type virgin female flies sexually select wild type males over males with mutation for eye morphology Drosophila melnogaster is an extensively studied organism. It is commonly known as fruit fly and belongs to the Order Diptera. It is used as a model organism for research studies especially in the field of genetics and evolutionary biology.

The sequencing of its genome revealed that the fly had only four chromosomes that encodes about 13,600 genes with diverse functionality (Adams et al, 2000). Its short life period, higher reproduction rate and the ease
