Penicillin process introduction Penicillin process introduction Penicillin production is a bioprocess which involves a number of stages, ranging all the way from financial planning to application of chemical processes.(Biwer, Griffith, & Cooney, 2005).Holding all factors constant and taking all the parameters into account, the probability of it costing exactly $15 to produce one kilogram of penicillin is 0.02. This can be derived from Probability Distribution UPC Unit Cost graph. If it does cost you $15 to product one kilogram, the company will make a total profit of $250, from a total sale of 100kg of penicillin.

This can be calculated by the formula:Total selling cost ($1750) - total production cost ($1500)=$250. The process of purification of a product especially in a chemical producing plant involves a number of options, and examples of some options which may be involved where a product must be made very pure include:-i. Adsorption.ii. Diafiltration.iii. Electrophoresis. In the process flow diagram,, penicillin is actually first produced in Centrifugal extraction With numeric number: P-23/CX 101 The purchase of up streaming and down streaming piece of equipment’s involves a number of expenses.

Examples of these equipment’s and their expenses are:Up streaming piece of equipment - Compressors - $0.1millionDown-streaming piece of equipment-crystallization unit-$0.3million Production process as shown and why it would not make sense to use that method. Some down streaming operations seen in penicillin production chart are not involved in the actual production of penicillin. ( Biwer, Griffith, & Cooney, 2005).For instance, Neutralization is not involved at any stage in this production plant.

This is because it will cause decrease in enzyme concentration which will lower the level of penicillin production.Penicillin production requires a number of inputs which will in turn be processed to give the outputs as the final products. Examples of such are:Inputs of the systemi. Glucoseii. Phenoxy acetic acidOutputs of the systemi. Penicillin sodium saltii. Waste products.Running a penicillin plant is costly and involves several expenses. Some of the major expenses involved in running the penicillin plant are:i.

Facility dependent costs.ii. Consumables cost such as cost for membranes and chromatography.iii. Total labor cost.In conclusion, a consideration put in the following areas of weakness:-inadequate analytical techniques, simplistic models with assumptions, variance in signals and performance, inefficiencies in use of information, inefficient learning and financial constrains can lead to quality production of penicillin (Biwer, Griffith, & Cooney, 2005)REFERENCEBiwer, A., Griffith, S., & Cooney, C. ( 2005). Uncertainty analysis of penicillin V production using Monte Carlo simulation.
