They have arms, which are longer than their legs and is an avid tree climber. They usually walk on all fours with the use of their knuckles supporting on the ground. This type of locomotion is called “knuckle-walking”. The chimpanzees have no tail and have a dark hairy coat. The brain of the chimpanzee only comes to half the size of that of human.It is also an interesting fact, that chimpanzee use tools for food hunting purpose. “Chimpanzee tools are used both for feeding and for other purposes, such as body care and signaling, but the subsistence tools used for obtaining food show with special clarity the problem of explaining behavioral variant as ecological adaptation”(Wrangham 21).
They are omnivores and eats fruits; seeds, flowers, and plant shoots. They also eat termites, ants, and small animals. They communicate with the help of facial expression, gestures, and hands. Chimpanzees are social animals and live in small, stable groups of about forty to sixty individuals. They are very intelligent and it is our duty to protect their life.
