In that sense, it does need to be acknowledged that Shashi Caan’s approach to modern architecture is indeed imbued with much gravity, solemnity, and wisdom. It gives a new flip to the hitherto left and unconcluded modernist agenda. It does need to be mentioned that the ideas presented by Rykwert in Meaning and Building are not merely confined to the realm of ideas, but he does take the pains to analyze and interpret those ideas in a historical and artistic context. It does facilitate much substance to the queries delving on the meaning and purpose underlying modern architecture.
Rykwert has indeed put in immense research and effort to delve into the purpose and locations signifying cities and buildings during varied historical periods. According to Barrie, architecture since times immemorial has been much more than about contriving buildings. Barrie does convey in this essay that architecture could and may be used as a means of extending expression to salient human values, truths, and ethics. These attributes of architecture tend to be significantly more discernible and evident in the holy, theological, or sacred architecture.
