Hunting Motivations of Chimpanzees - Essay Example

The study shows that primates have a natural desire for warm, soft body contact. It tells that primates who are not raised by real mothers regardless of which types of surrogate mothers revealed that infants lacked the various basic social skills such as lacking mothering skills when they become mothers and not being able to get along with other monkeys.

I observed that the two chimpanzees were first clasping their hands while smelling each other’s armpits. Then they move to what it looks like hugging each other and doing an equivalent of petting humans. Other chimpanzees were leaving them alone as if they know that its none of their business.

I think that this behavior is consistent with Hallows's research that primates are also predisposed to affection just like humans. One of their expression of affection is touching and cuddling (or kissing) just like what the baby showed in his experiment except in this case, the two monkeys seems to be petting because they are already adults.
