Food Development and Safety CGIAR is an international strategic alliance that works under the standards of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The alliance is for the betterment of food and agriculture sectors where it has covered several projects to combat food insecurity. The regions include Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Kuwait or Kazakhstan where the alliance has brought food safety programs. The organization has brought major influence in the areas of agriculture where the objective is to apply the latest methods of food and nutrition safety. CGIAR has made improvements in nutritional value by implementing pest management methods and methods of advanced biological control in the agriculture side (CGIAR). FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) is one of the major alliances of the United Nations, which fundamentally works in the areas of forestry, fishery practices and food or agriculture activities. Under the mission of food safety development, FAO has deployed a couple of international projects to bring the highest values in food and nutrition for the people of different cultures and communities. FAO has established a Global Information Early Warning System (GIEWS), which takes actions in food security situations prevailing in Qatar, Libya, Kuwait, and Morocco, etc. The organization has established integrated pest management systems, which prevent pest diseases to come to rural food districts. In the 1990s FAO trained Asian farmers to apply advanced pest control methods for the prevention of pest contagion, which eventually saved many food sectors that were exposed to food diseases at that time (FAO). In the origin of the G8 summit where world top leaders enjoined to combat food insecurity, GAFSP (Global Agriculture and Food Security Program) came out as a solution for those regions of the world, which are in the bad shape of food and agriculture. GAFSP is a global financial mechanism that is to structure and manage Global agriculture and food. It is an international fundraising mechanism that is active to resolve Global food chain problems. The problems of food supply and demand, problems of nutritional insecurities and problems of health and food safety are all important considerations of GAFSP (FAO). Global Green Growth Forum (3GF) is an idea of maximized growth improvised by the Denmark Government, which is in a direct mission to combat international food insecurities. It is a concept that has brought different countries to align at one major cause and that is to secure water for the coming generations, and the future Planet Earth’s situation. The program stands with a mission to provide water with the best cleansing and storage methods. Water being the major part of nutrition and health is under the highest consideration of 3GF’s food safety plans. The program has decided that all the food insecurities should be managed that come by general exploitation or mismanagement of natural water resources (Global Green Growth). International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is a mega institution formed in 1975 for international food security and preservation. The idea of the organization is based on the conception that food security is only possible if eco-systems of agriculture are maintained and managed at the right times. With three decades of collaborative research and service to different parts of the world, the institution has developed diversified biological methods for disease prevention and methods for fast agriculture growth and development. ICARDA has comprised solutions for dry areas agriculture where food resources are manageable and sustainable enough for high-quality nutrition preservation (CGIAR). The IEA (International Energy Agency) is a French social organization that has targeted its missions on the oil and energy sector. The organization relates food sector incompetence to Oil and Energy crises. The institution has contributed a lot to private organizations that are involved in food management and safety activities. The Agency is operative in analyzing the latest trends in the oil market, which their experts consider it as a cause of deficient food supply. The organization has set plans for the future, which are in the global perspective to manage food insecurities by biofuel crops and agriculture (Globe Europe). IFAD (International Fund For Agriculture Development) is an Italian segment of the United Nations development program, which works for the betterment of agricultural and food nutrition reforms. With a vision to serve the poorer world, IFAD actualizes the eradication of rural poverty in under developing countries of the world. The food sector is a central consideration of IFAD for which it has worked in quality food deliverance and production. In the vision to provide healthy food and nutrition at good prices, IFAD has devised plans for the future in which poverty is the main subject and quality food is the aim to get achieved in a maximum of 8 to 10 years (United Nations University). IMF (International Monetary Fund) is a central part of the United Nations food development program. It has been set with plans to aggregate funds to fight the global problem of food shortage. According to FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) 2008 press report, 800 million people suffered from food crises in the under developing countries at that time. After that IMF took action in a way that food becomes available and is out from any nutritional contagion like Swan flu, which was outspread in European regions at that time. The problem of bird flu also became immense in the year 2009, which was also very important for the IMF to resolve before it spreads out the entire Asian region of the world (IMF). International Nutrition Foundation is an organization that works on the areas of malnutrition and hunger problems. With effective research methods and scientific principles, INF has implemented major plans in the nutrition and food development section. The organization is present in the multicultural spectrum where it has engaged with different cultures facing the problems of food elimination and shortage. The organization is partnered with the United Nations Childs Fund and United Nations rehabilitation programs in which food security is the basic consideration of both INF and United Nations Authorities. INF is collaborated with the International Union of Nutritional Science to work on the advanced methods of improving worldwide nutritional quality (Kuhnlein and Pelto). The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is a central operating department of the United Nations development program. The department has progressed in the last decade where the major projects it has conducted were in the areas of economic and social development. Food sustainability is a crucial area of concern from DESA as the department has been compelling worldwide to avail food and major economic resources in developing and under-developing countries of the world. The Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit is a foundation, which is in its six funding stage, which means it holds a major response from the world in the ability to work for nutritional quality control. FSNAU has been responsive to international food insecurities where it has begun its combat journey from Somalia State. The foundation works in the surveillance and food testing projects, which becomes possible by the foundation’s latest adaptation of the quality check methods. It has conducted projects in the analysis of malnutrition and food insecurities to understand how food becomes poisonous and how the causes can be eliminated (FSNAU). The Middle East Desalination Research Center (MEDRC) is an academic research institute that works for the peace and development of Middle Eastern countries. The core objective of the center is to provide clean and fresh water to the people of the Middle East, especially Oman, where the institute is operative with a central responsibility. The subject of working is desalination where the mission is to fight insecurities of water and make it clean for human and economic development in the region. Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is a European organization that is partnered with all the democratic states for their economic and social development. On international forums, OECD has been addressing issues of food insecurities. The organization considers food insecurity as a major element of economic growth and so provided suggestions to get them implemented on the food quality control section (OECD). The Secretary-General of the United Nations is the central principle organ of the United Nations organization. Ban-Ki-moon is the present Secretary-General, the ruling head of the UN who leads on the front to design international growth and development policies where food and nutrition are on the top of consideration. Among classical issues of all times, Secretary-General gives much importance to the issue of food insecurity worldwide. According to Secretary-General’s remarks at the ministerial meeting of the Economic and Social Council (2012), food and nutrition security issue has to be put on the top of the development agenda (United Nations). UN conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is a central organ of the United Nations General Assembly, which got developed in 1964 for dealing with trade and economic growth issues worldwide. According to the UNCTAD report 2012, food insecurity is one of the leading issues that restrict economic and social growth of under developing countries. As UNCTAD stands the major issue in under developing countries like Oman, Qatar, Libya or Kazakhstan is of the climate change, which holds the potential of damaging agriculture and food sectors. UNCTAD holds a holistic vision of food insecurity problems and so as determining solutions to minimize the intensity of such problems (Hoffmann). The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) is an agency comprised of the United Nations to work for the development of refugees throughout the world. Under the responsibility, UNHCR works for the protection of refugee districts and to provide them with permanent solutions for their problems like the problem of food, shelter or transportation. Food insecurity is not UNHCR’s direct issue but it is their responsibility to handover refugee food safety problems to analogous organizations like FAO or FSNAU who work in the areas of food protection or food safety. UNHCR works for asylum seekers and acknowledges their basic living issues like clean water, clean diet, nutrition or shelter, etc. (UNHCR). United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a global development network that operates in 177 countries including Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt or Algeria, etc. UNDP addresses developing countries to deploy their advanced development programs for the betterment of under developing countries. In recent times, UNDP has worked a lot in environment building where the emphasis is on water supply and sanitation activities. For the provision of the best water supplies to poor parts of the world, UNDP has applied the latest methods of biodiversity to upgrade the lands, agriculture, food and nutrition by clean water supply (UNDP). United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is a planning body of the United Nations to organize and manage environmental problems worldwide. In Brussels, UNEP follows policies of strategic environmental management, where the idea is to engage world nations on restricting environment safety and health problems. Water, food, and nutrition are the important sections of the environment are on the significance of UNEP global development plans. The body is steady to resolve international environmental food crises problem, where the crises are of the land, crops, and agriculture to generate clean food and nutrition for the people. United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is an agency that looks for extensive development programs in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa regions. USAID has become partnered with agencies like BIFAD for addressing issues of agriculture, food, and nutrition in the international domain. In collaboration with BIFAD, USAID has decided to cover up nexus of agriculture, nutrition, and human health to fight back the problems of food insecurities, malnutrition, water contamination, and crop dissolution, etc. (USAID). World Health Organization (WHO) is one of the leading organizations that have been working in food and nutrition development programs. Under the WHO global food safety agenda, the organization has developed methods of food surveillance to check food for biological hazards, chemical hazards, infections or diseases in both developing and under-developing countries. The organization has started building capacity for food testing and quality control methods in which integrated food safety systems and sanitation of food chains are inclusive The organization has also focused on foodborne diseases to get them on high-tech laboratory testing for better understanding of food poisoning and infections (WHO). World Trade Organization (WTO) is the world’s biggest trading organization. The organization has emphasized a lot on food insecurities and tried to submerge agreements and policies for international trade in which food hygiene and human health issues are at the highest consideration. The organization has provided policies to support the cause of food safety and control, where agreements have made food safety mandatory for international FMCG suppliers. This is a mass productive effort of WTO which has forced industrialists and FMCGs to work on the food safety aspect adequately and effectively (WTO). UNITAID is an international body for trading drugs against tuberculosis, Malaria and other intensified infectious diseases like HIV AIDS. Under the policy, administration of the World Health Organization UNITAID works on the issues of health and food insecurities. They reach out to the causes of food poisoning, infection, and diseases, which can be cured by drugs and medicines. The agenda of “One Health, One World” is evolved with UNITAID where the organization has taken initiatives to wipe out food insecurities from each corner of the world. The initiatives are to secure food and agriculture sectors, which often get opened to diseases brought by extreme climatic conditions (GRF). With global desertification problems and problems of water and food shortage, different bodies like the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) came into place to bring such problems on an international domain. Desertification becoming immense brought UNCCD to combat in dry rural areas, where lands have become infertile and present with a less chance to seed quality crops or nutrition. This has brought UNCCD and its 194 following parties to bring soil and land infertility issues on the world’s food developing domains, which is to promote methods of sustainability and preservation for quality food and water resources (UNCCD). United Nations Development Group (UNDG) is a group comprised of the United Nations Secretary-General in 1997. The group under the facilitation and support of the World Food Programme works for food problems worldwide. Africa is the core region of desertification and food insecurity problems are on the highest consideration of UNDG. The group organizes activities and projects to develop resources for providing quality food and nutrition to the people. Such projects get implemented on areas that hold the highest rate of hunger and low-quality food nutrition. With support from WFP, UNDG develops quality food resources for 90 million people per year (Clark). United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is an international treaty that came out from the United Nations conference of environmental development. The treaty assures the issue of environmental pollution and its hazards in the food and agriculture sectors. The treaty looks for possible climate management to prevent pollutants worldwide that destroy eco-systems and the systems of food and agriculture in dryland regions. To prevent food infections, United Nations FCCC has given suggestions to international food traders and managers that they control pollutants before it gets late for saving quality food resources of the world (Paul, Ernsting, and Semino). United Nations Standing Committee on Nutrition (UNSCN) is a committee that operates under the policy administration of the United Nations. UNSCN promotes collaboration between all the UN partners, which are involved in nutrition control and food security. The committee administrates multiple organizations that work in areas of malnutrition and food safety planning and development. UNSCN must assure food safety on National, regional and international levels so that food safety becomes a hundred percent and the chance of catching diseases gets minimized. UNSCN also spread awareness on malnutrition problems so that the affected regions can best reach out for their solutions (UNSCN). United Nations University (UNU) is a global arm of the United Nations network, which works in different areas of development. Food and nutrition are central areas of UNU programs in which they have implemented a couple of active projects worldwide. The institute is steady to resolve food problems like malnutrition or the dissolution of agriculture fields worldwide. It has been on natural resource management and agriculture development where the idea is to bring sufficient food supplies in the most sanitized methods and structures. UNU takes on account the malnutrition problems prevailing across the dryland regions of the world, which is to support the combat of international food insecurities and water droughts (Stover). World Bank Group is an international financial institution, which got developed in the 1940s. The group is exclusive to international financial support systems. In member countries of IDB where Africa is on the top of the list, the bank has given much financial support to wipe out problems of food insecurity, agriculture dissolution or water drought which is extensive in the southern hemisphere of Africa.
