Title: Set4.Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock, 1969 and Giorgio di sant’angelo, dress 1971 Name Professor’s name Institution Set4.Jimi Hendrix live at Woodstock, 1969 The image Jimi Hendrix shows a live performance at Woodstock by Hendrix and his band. The music being played is soft and serenading as portrayed by facial expressions. The crowd seems to relax and soothed by the music. The emotions captured gives us a timeless moment that will make a person to observe it keenly. Through research, I have discovered that the photograph was taken in the year 1969 during a two-hour live performance. Jimi Hendrix is pictured in the photograph as having been carried away by the tune and rhythm of the musical instrument. The people in the image are keen and at ease; they seem to be carried away by the melodies and the tunes played by the legendary guitarist and his band. They seem to have identified themselves with the music and has accepted the artist. I have no information on their names, but one thing is clear is that they are Jimi Hendrix’s die-hard fans. The audience is mostly made up of middle age men, and I can spot different races meaning the community is multiracial. I can further conclude that the society is peaceful. If there were racial discrimination, the audience would be that of a particular group, further in an insecure neighborhood; people will have less interest in entertainment and on the contrary, they would focus on security and other issues affecting them. The clothing depicted picture is that of urban dwellers. Urban dwellers love fashionable and comfortable dressing. A gentleman who stands near the band has matched his white shoes with a white shirt and trouser. Members of the band had head turbans with the same colors but tied in different styles, Jimi has tied his turban in a pushback style while his band guitarist has tied the turban around his whole head without exposing his hair. The people in the audience have heavy jackets, and some seem to cross their hands probably a mechanism to overcome the cold or amazed. Jimi Hendrix is dressed in a cream cotton sweater that is complimented by bell bottom trousers. Contrary to the audience he seems to enjoy dressing up in traditional attire, giving us the notion that he is a conformist who like holding on to his cultural roots. I can observe that in the audience, only 1% of the people are wearing cowboy hats with the artist wearing a silver stud in his right ear, complimented by the orange-silver chain on his neck. He has a silver ring on his right pinky finger. Palmist will relate this to persuasion and intelligence. On his left pointer finger, he has a ring giving the idea that he is from Europe, where wearing a ring on this finger denoted a specific family identity and hence some people were forbidden from wearing rings. On his right middle finger, he has a round shaped ring that is small as compared to the other rings. Wearing a small ring on this finger will be comfortable especially when undertaking manual work such as playing Guitar since it’s not bulky. The middle finger mainly symbolizes responsibility and balance. We can recognize that the background is that of either at dawn or evening hours when the sun is raising or has set respectively. Most of the concerts are held overnight, or after official working hours after the people have had a long day, they want to wind up with soothing and relaxing music. Music is one of the most effective therapeutical methods for a stressed or depressed person. As per the norms, people enjoy music concerts that are held overnight especially if the following day they are not working. The background is important to describe the context and the circumstances under which the picture was taken. I can observe a big crowd means the performers were renown artists recognize and accepted by many. If the band were, infamous people would not attend the event as they are not assured of the quality of performance they will get. The image looks like it was taken without the consent of the people. The artists are not looking at the camera meaning they were not posing for a photo. Journalist or paparazzi take such photos.I have settled at the notion by the fact that if it was a photo shoot people will put on their best smiles, faces and poses to appear elegant in the photograph. By observing the graphics of the photograph I can tell it not a selfie taken by one of the fans, this is so because the photographer is not in the picture and the size of the photograph is larger than that of a selfie. The image was captured to tell a beautiful story, probably to tell of a great concert that was extraordinary and of great accomplishment. The photo has a great composition. It uses the rule of the thirds. The audience is symmetrically centered on the photograph and an approximation of a third ground and two-thirds sky horizontally. There are leading lines that occupy the picture in a triangular shape that captures our attention and lead us directly to the audience. The photograph leaves us with an imagination of what type of song serenading the audience. We ask questions such as; what is an inspirational song? Was it a love song? Or perhaps a patriotic song. The image allows us to use our imagination to identify ourselves with the picture and have a personalized effect in our minds. Moreover, we can have enough information about the type of event that was and the surrounding. The photograph is captured from close range to signify insufficient space. This may mean the venue was packed with both human and cars to capacity. The presence of clouds, bare ground and trees show clearly that this was an outdoor activity. As opposed to a hotel or a ship, the audience will be holding beverages, and we could have observed the presence of chairs, benches, and tables. There is a great lighting that has turned the mundane scene into a colorful scene full of life. The nature of sunset and sunrise gives the picture a natural lighting that the photograph will not have to adjust the camera lighting and flashes. The cloudy sky has amplified the green color of beautiful leafy trees. The image engages the sight of a wedding reception scene indirectly. In most weddings, the couples opt for an outdoor event mainly due to the fresh air from the natural surrounding and beautiful lighting from a sunset. At the contemporary setting, the image will contain a certain message in the form of text, mostly an encouragement or a quote from a renowned scholar. In our time the image would be shared on a website or a social media platforms where the people will react, like, comment and share the image to their timelines. The image probably would have been captured using an iPhone or a mobile phone camera inform of a selfie as opposed to the past where a photograph was only taken by a professional photograph to market themselves or the products in the image. Social cohesion, political stability, a developed economy and advanced technology are drivers of change that have facilitated the photography field to come into existence (Williams and McGuire, 2008). If the economy were not developed, the people would not be I a position to attend a luxuries event such as a music concert. In a developed economy people have the opportunity to develop and make use of their talents, for instance, the drummer, guitarist, and vocalist in the band. According to Maslow hierarchy of needs Huitt (2004), for people to achieve the self-actualization stage, other basic needs must be satisfied. Among the basic needs are physiological needs, safety needs, belongingness and love needs, esteem needs to self –actualization according to, allow satisfying the lower needs will provide a platform to progress upwards and meet the other needs in the subsequent level. This is possible when the drivers of the economy are in harmony. Giorgio di sant’angelo, dress 1971 The image of a colorful cultural dress was taken by Giorgio di sant’angelo in the year 1971.The image is centered on A4 paper. The photography represents a clothing business; the dress is on display probably at an exhibition. There are no other clothes on display around it to mean it’s not a boutique or a supermarket. The dress has a chiffon type of fabric with red, blue, brown and gray colors. The dress is maxi and has a waterfall neckline. The dress is meant for expectant mothers who would want to attend a certain event, for instance, a wedding and would not want to wear tight dresses. The free dress allows an expectant mother to feel comfortable in an outdoor event and as well gives room for the baby to grow and get all the nutrients their require for growth while still a fetus. The dress has no observable embellishments or accessories. The floor length of the maxi dress will go well with flat shoes. High heels will not go well with a maxi dress another reason to conclude that the dress is meant for expectant mothers. The dress is simply thrown over the head, grab a pair of sandals and start your journey. This maxi dress allows a person to maintain a level of modesty on the bottom half. The dress has cap sleeves that would cover bra straps giving the person wearing it a sense of respect, people dress according to how they want to be addressed and so this dress will make a person stand out in the crowd. The dress will be a perfect match for a conformist as it exposes less skin. Maxi dress cannot be worn during the cold and rainy season. However, when it is very hot, the dress covers the legs and prevent them from the sun. The dress is also airy, and so it will give a person a cooling effect. The photographer chooses a sizeable distance from the subject. It appears to have been taken from a wide angle lens and fairly closer. This was necessary because of the hanger the dress is placed on. Being closer to the image gives the viewer a sense that they were inside the frame. The image is Captured symmetrically and it occupies a third of the frame with two-thirds sky view and a third ground view. The image has no visible shadow to mean it was taken using artificial lighting. This brings the emphasis that the image was on display in a fashion exhibition event. The background of the image is painted a uniform cream color to avoid diverting attention to other colors from the main subject. The image appears to have been customized and a lot of designs and time invested in the dress. This may mean that the dress was designed for a prominent vocal leader like the queen or a princess who is to attend a public function and would want to hide their pregnancy to avoid gawking and unnecessary excitement. The photograph is in a rectangular frame that will grab the views attention. It appears to be from a high-resolution camera. The image directly takes us to a boutique where the best and new designs are put on display to inform the clients of their existence. Mostly the designs are displayed on a glass drawer to capture the attention of window-shoppers and passers-by. The image was taken for the purpose of advertising in print media. When a new product is introduced in the market, the company advertises it to inform potential customers of the existence of the commodity, its use, and benefits to consumers (Jain, 2009). The consumers of this dress are women who are either pregnant or a plus size. Due to prejudice and stereotypes, the plus size woman feels awkward walking around with clothes that show how big they are. Most of the times they are viewed as people with no sense of fashion as many designs are made for models size women. I think the designers intended to challenge the notion that plus size women cannot wear fashionable clothes. The dress will not expose the shape of the body and on the contrary it will complement the size. Bibliography Blakemore, C. and Jennett, S. eds., 2001. The Oxford companion to the body (Vol. 7).
